The European Commission has approved the Activision/Vivendi merger, giving Vivendi a 52% stake in the company called Activision Blizzard. This gives the company a rival size to that of US software giant EA. Clash of the Titans it seems is inevitable. Good for the consumer, though.

In an interview with Gamasutra, Capcom VP Christian Svensson has suggested that he expects Capcom to be publishing WiiWare titles in the West very soon. On top of that, he also revealed that he would be shocked if Capcom does not acquire a Western developer in the next two years to help facilitate this. It seems the Xbox Live Marketplace has been good to companies, and WiiWare is the next front to be broken in -- this is especially good for Capcom's old catalog of games like Street Fighter and the like.

Why anyone would come out and say this out loud is beyond us, but John Riccitiello, the CEO over at EA, revealed that he is aiming to make his company what 'Disney is to animation and NBC is to television'. Speaking to the Financial Times, Ricitiello said his priority was't being number one on the charts, but making EA a part of gaming's history -- the all-time greatest gaming company. Oh boy.

Speaking with MCV, Activision Marketing Director David Tyler said they are pleased that Call of Duty 4 is still leading the way, and that Army of Two and Rainbow 6 Vegas are "failing to inspire." Nothing like being a gracious winner eh?

David Gardner, the new Atari head, is considering dropping the Infogrames name in favor of the more-recognizable Atari name. Sounds like a reasonable move, as many non-gamers do not know of Infogrames, yet Atari is known the world around.

"We like to think of Infogrames, instead of being the tired, old company, we like to think of it as the best-funded, best-branded, most energetic start-up in the history of computer gaming."

At the game marketing conference this year in San Francisco, OTX, a research firm, was contracted to study the video game resale market. They concluded that over 60% of gamers purchase used and news games, which equates to about 49 million US gamers. Even here at GR, if we need to check out something in an older game that can be purchased used, why would we not save money? It's just common sense.
