An article in Forbes entitled "How GTAIV Threatens The Wii," is now posted over at the Forbes website. According to the author, the Nintendo Wii has been reigning supreme, that is until the release of GTAIV. Take Two is expected to make $400 million USD alone in the first week of sales. And with the game being available on both PS3 and Xbox360, the Wii may suffer serious damage.

Microsoft has officially ceased its bid to acquire internet giant Yahoo. The takeover attempt was 33 USD per share, for a total value of 47.5 billion. The offer was rejected, and MS then threatened to start a proxy fight (a hostile takeover of sorts). It seems now though that things may just end without a war.

Take Two chairman Strauss Zelnick has stated that the company's plan to avodi takeover until after the release of GTAIV has worked. The outstanding sales of the title have pushed up the stock price of T2, which, in turn, drives up the potential buyout price. Clever plan.

“The critical and consumer response to Grand Theft Auto IV vindicates our strategy of waiting until the launch with regard to E.A.’s offer,” said Zelnick in a New York Times interview.

It is official now despite all the speculation. Infogrames has officially acquired Atari for $11 million USD. In addition, Infrogrames revealed that they offered to acquire SCi, and were rejected, and that they are now going to lend Atari (now an Infogrames subsidiary) 20 million to fund the company from now until the merger closes.

"Bringing Atari US and Infogrames businesses together will enable us to create a simplified global structure for our business as we seek to re-build a well-managed, cohesive and financially disciplined company," said Infogrames CEO David Gardner in a statement.

According to GI, Valve approached both MS and Yahoo to build Steam before they decided to develop it themselves. Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve, revealed how the company tried to convince other companies to build the game distribution platform.

"You know, we went around to Yahoo, Microsoft...and anybody who seemed like a likely candidate to build something like Steam," he explained.

Codemasters are quickly becoming the top arcade variety race game makers in the industry. With the acquisition of the recently closed Sega Racing Studio, chances are that CM will now be the people to beat when it comes to racers. DiRT was fantastic, and the upcoming GRiD looks even better. Not to mention the inevitable sequels.

Software giant Ubisoft has announced its full year financials, and sales have risen 36% to a whopping 928 million euros. This is attributed to an increase in holiday sales and the release of Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. This year should be even better, it seems.
