Crysis 2 Maxing Out PS3 >
2009/06/04 11:48:30: Posted by DM
Another developer is claiming to have "maxed out" a system with its impending sequel. Cevat Yerli, the CEO of Crytek, denied that it would takes years for developers to max out the potential of the PS3. He used this statement to claim that the coming sequel, Crysis 2, will push the PS3 to its limits. He claims that they ran a performance analysis on the PS3 while running Crysis 2, and all the CPU cores were firing, pushing the "needle to the limit." If this is indeed true, we wonder what developers will do to surprise us for the next 5 years.

I wonder how this game will compare PS3 vs Xbox 360, graphic wise. But I guess I don't really care cause i'll be getting it on PC. Great Game!

nonsense. this maxing out business is the biggest nonsense to make it out this generation

Just like AW2 maxes out the 360 right? I agree with arthur, this "maxing out" crap has gone on since the beginning of this gen and it's PR rubbish.

I agree most of it's bullshit, but I mean if there's 1 game to do it, probably Crysis

I believe the new Petz game will be maxing out the Wii, as well.

no game is going to max out any console kr0nixz....it crap spewed to get someone airtime and attention

@arthur56k

if you are familiar with Crysis, then you'd know what he meant by that. so far that game has been known to not run smoothly on any PC on Max settings, with Nvidia(or ATI, i forget) making an $1800 video card that still couldnt handle Crysis on Max setting running smoothly.

I think the term "max out" is lost on some people. It's very true and likely that Crysis 2 will make the 360 and PS3 work very very hard, especially if the level of detail is greater than what we have seen so far. No doubt there.

However there will surely be more room for optimization to be had with both consoles beyond what we see in Crysis 2. Just about every game on either system uses all the cores, uses all the memory, and uses all of the ALUs on the GPU, and you can consider this "maxed out" seeing as how it uses every available resource. However it's not what you use, but how you use it.

I'm not saying that Crysis 2 will be coded poorly, but I wouldn't worry about it maxing out either system to it's fullest. No one uses all of the power in a console on their first game.

Besides, I was told that "maxing out" a system would require 100% perfect optimization and this is impossible since by nature humans are imperfect creatures. =)

Also while you make a great point incoming, comparing console development with PC development isn't the best way to go for one reason: Software Abstraction Layer. =)

Crytek and others should explain us what exactly the term " max out" means.

What is "maxed out"? To me seems nothing more than cryket currently having no more ideas on how to run crysis 2 on the ps3 without comsuming as much system resources as it does now.

It does not mean that a few years from now new programming techniques/ideas arrise in order to run the same or other more complex games without causing as much strain on the system as as it does now.

As as long as there's people willing to swallow whatever comes out of these PR Department asses , articles like this will always be on the headlines.

i will not be suprised when this game comes out and there are better looking games out there with better physics and better graphics

Lol what a load of rubbish. I could make a blank screen max out ps3's resources, it doesnt mean jack.

They're just trying to go on about how awesome their engine is.

Maybe it's maxing out what the PS3 is capable of from their personal skillset, they're pretty new on the platform after years of PC only development, I think what they see as "maxing out" and what a company like Naughty Dog sees are probably 2 different things.

That can be said for every system and every developer Krakn.

Many factors including dev talent, tools, engine, preference and more all influence how one views a system and it's future.
