PSP2 In The Works? Samsung Says Yes >
2006/02/16 17:21:58: Posted by DM
According to this Japanese website, Samsung has stated that they are making NAND Flash Memory for the PSP2. In addition, Samsung claims SCEI wants to use Samsung Flash memory hard disk drives instead of a UMD Player in the new PSP. Now, we willl chalk this one up to rumor for now, but the smart money says it is certainly true in some form.

Maybe they should focus on the current PSP, adding new features, making decent media players in firmware upgrades and allowing homebrew. Not making PSP2....

Im actually getting tired of sony attitude with psp. Theyre not supporting the machine in the way they should, the lack of good games, and especially good games to play online is becoming offensive. And if they think people will suddenly switch to thier next machine giving them a 2nd chance theyll soon learn that gamers dont make mistakes twice. For a company that knew what is was doing with ps1 they seem not to have learned a single thing about what to do with in the handheld games market. Now even i am going to purchase a ds.

That's what happens when you don't feel threaten by the competition. But when you do feel threaten, that's when you start copying there idea.

I use to have two PSP. But after a while you get tired of movies. I see more movies advertised in commercials for the PSP then games. Now they are talking about flash memory for the PSP2 come on enough is enough I'm a big fan of them but lately Ive been very tired of the way they do business.
Written by Azurite (5) on 2006/02/17

I thought it was obvious, they'll probably use a version of Cell in PSP2.

I have a psp still and im to the point where though i can easily afford psp i feel it never deserved my money. I will keep it though just incase the killer game for psp ever comes. But my pockets cant stand the ipod and psp together. Also the ds scince ive ordered the lite version
Written by Richard (5) on 2006/02/17

The G. I like you. You seem like a gamer which thats what forums need somebody who probably has alot of systems. I've criticize companies because I also had experiences with them, Not because I'm a die hard fan to one company then the other, my loyalty is to me. I have written my opinions before and people think I'm bashing because I'm a fan, but thats not true. I bash from experience not just to bash. Also good move on getting the import ds lite version it seems like a unique hand held.

Yeah i had the killer app for PSP already and it was GTA. I sold mine and have not looked back.

isnt that what the n gage did? they released a new version of n gage after getting complaints from the press and gamers? well why are you all smack talking the psp but not the n gage?
Written by Wok7 (2) on 2006/02/18

I agree with the G too. The PSP was fun when it launched but focus has been on UMD movies and Firmware updates. I hope Sony will finish messing around and give gamers what they paid for.

I think the PSP has its problems, but it's the first game system I own since SNES, so I'm not really into other machines, their process of getting into market, etc. But I think there are a few things that would at least make some people happier about the PSP:

- A game that is a reference of the PSP, or a killer game.

- More devices that read UMDs, at least the video and music ones. Right now buying one of those is pretty pointless.

- Use more of the PSP's potential, like more accessories, more compatibility in firmware upgrades, etc (the way the videos need to be done in order to be read by the PSP is just a joke...)

To sum up, right now the PSP strategy is a bit messed up, let's hope Sony gets the right path.

i still say they change blue-ray to minidisks and make that the format. universal all the way!! also, im happy with my PSP and the demand is high so i think well see the results. you couldn't ask for better hardware???

Thanks for the positive feedback!! and i know exactly what you mean richard, some people think your a fanboy when really your a consumer talking about your experience with a product, like i dont mind saying the ds has better games, its a fact, some psp owners will feel the need to get defensive. WHy?

I like the psp, and obviously bought it because i felt it was good at launch, and still somewhat now.

I own most of the good games out and still need more from sony. I like psp alot, i think that the potential for handheld gaming on this machine is amazing, and honestly do prefer it to the nintendo ds(ds is still good tho). I just wish sony would start to work with publishers to get going, there is some good games out on psp yet they dont have online play. Why? according to my understanding of the machine it wouldnt really be that hard to implement on games, since the psp is basically a small pc.

But sony really arent demanding enough from publishers, they need to start pushing for quality or at least good games from publishers. After enjoying wifi so much on my brothers ds i have to own it. I wish sony could really start to get something from developers because the psp can create amazing games, the proof is there.

There are so many developers that are close with sony, why arent they doing more? I mean capcom, namco and konami could do so much more. The potential is there. They just need to get developers going. Like recently tekken for psp has been shown, its a good game but wheres the online play? those little features could really sell the psp and psp games. I like psp and wont sell mine.

But i really think that sony should not try anything stupid and shortchange current owners of the psp, or they could see ds capatalise more on the problems of psp.

I think that the PSP is an exceptional gaming system. With so much that can be done and all of the neat tools, it seems like a system that is getting better and better by the day. I am very sad to hear that they are even THINKING about what PSP2 is going to be like when we have not even had the PSP around for more than one year. The system has so much more room for growth and to simply move on would be a big mistake on sony's part. This isn't to say that I'm not looking forward to a second PSP, but if you release a system as valuable as the PSP, atleast let us see the extent of its potential.

oh and the ds is getting a new release since nintendo wants to milk their current customers for more moeny by forcing them to buy a sexier version. so how is that any different?

oh and homebrew will live forever on the psp.
Written by Wok7 (2) on 2006/02/19

Except Nintendo isn't forcing you to buy anything. Maybe the PSP would be liked more if it came in different colors. It always worked for Nintendo...

yeah i dont know y they even think of releasing a new psp i just got one for my birthday and i love it i own both the psp and the ds but still i dont want to spend another 8 billion dollars for another device im just hoping that sony doesnt do it

Sony has spent millions (maybe billions) of dollars to develop this whole project. Hopefully, this is just a rumor. I remember hearing rumors about a portable playstation console years ago. So if this is true, it'll be a few more years til it comes out. And besides, it wouldn't make sense for Sony to throw away a million dollar project after two years. Let's just hope that our psps will last another few years, and long enough til I get to the big colleges. HOPEFULLY, Sony will not sell out their loyal customers. But Sony has screwed their customers over before. Anyone ever have the "disc read error"?

There is a new article explaining they are still making PSP1, there probably isn't a PSP2 yet. However they now include Hard drives or something. That is why someone probably thought it was a "PSP2". So everyone can rest easy now.

The PSP2 wont be replacing the PSP the way PS2 replaced the PS1. It's just a PSP with a 4GB Flash drive and other neat hardware. It would be stupid of them not to make it 100% compatible with the current PSP and SONY is not stupid. There are two versions of the XBOX 360 and no one is freaking out about that. There are rumored to be two versions of the PS3 (1HDD loaded and 1 not) and everyone is cool with that. Just chill out and see what happens. Personally I think it's great. I can have one fully upgraded to use as Sony intended and leave my current PSP at 1.5 for homebrew. This kind of stuff happens all the time in the world of electronics so stop geting so worked up. If you love the DS sell your PSP and buy one, but as for me I love Sony's powerful little handheld.

I wouldnt doubt it if sony actually came out with a psp2 this year. The idea is shocking and really unthinkable. Why would any company not simply perfect what they already have?

My first thought is that Mabye the PSP really cant be pushed anymore. Mabye the memory restrictions keep it from doing everything people believe it can do. how much ram does this device have anyway?

Its a great device, but why wont they open up the device to so many more things. For example:

1. An RSS Reader so you can read news on the go

2. Better Games(Mabye the games suck cause the developers know there is something else on the horizon-like inconnectivity with the ps3 for the psp2)

3).A freakin video folder with ease of use.

4). The ability to have the videos play straight through all videos in your folder (the music folder does that.)

5). The ability to xfer files wirelessly (with a router or using bluetooth- hell you can do it with pictures.)

6). Something on the damn music screen when the music plays

Adding a 4gb hard drive, a camera and calling it a psp2-lol thats beyond outrageous. Not too mention that they may get rid of the umd part (where the hell will the games go! (Thats a whole different way of delivering games after a year!) To be honest i have a 2gb card. I heard a four and 8gb card should be coming out in august. Why get the hard drive?

The camera could be interesting, but if the psp2 still doesnt have the features listed above. It wont be worth buying, because the additions will probably be half-as* additions like everything else they've done to the first psp.

My jaw drops in disbelief at the thought of a psp2 after a year. A 4gb harddrive when you have 4gb memory sticks. An addition of a camera when everything else on the device is half-as*. I honestly think the addition of all this multimedia stuff/firmware updates is to draw people away from realizing that so much of this device isnt well thought out and limited. First the browser, then the location free player-lol- for 300.00 then the rss feeds then the wma play back. Sony will lose my respect and money if they comeout with a psp2 by the end of the year!

i agree completely with Cid. Why make a whole other system (that doesn't even use UMD; what're they gonna do with the games) when there's so much more room for improvement on the PSP? I for one think they should add bluetooth to it. why get a PSP2 with a 4 GB harddrive if they're comin' out with an 8 GB memory stick this fall?? This whole idea is half-baked.
Written by archy (2) on 2006/04/14

om my god now the PSi?!?! SONY STOP WITH THE NEW PSP DESIGNS! Even if you ARE gunna make ANOTHER ONE (PSP, PSP2, PSi, WHAT'S NEST, psp3?), At least use your own ideas, not the ds's touch screen
Written by JK (1) on 2006/05/30

i'm calling BS on the no UMD. Even Sony aren't dumb enough to have a format out for 2 years and scrap its support in the second iteration of a platform. Just think of all the games that HAVE to be backward compatible on the PSP2 - this means UMD support will be built into the new PSP. If not, I certainly won't get a new one.
Written by Nexios08 (1) on 2006/10/14

u guys are totatly right about this but they havent addressed the internet issue of the psp they should includ internet explorer or something better then a half-ass internet but if they come out with this new psp they should at least let previous owners of psp trade theirs in with like 50$ to get a new one or to say thanx to us for staying faithfull to sony right Mr.D 15

I have a PSP and I am pretty happy with mine. All except for the lack off online play (as stated above from many cool gamerz) and accessories. With the PSP2 they should have a program where you can use it as a cell phone (of course you will need bluetooth installed as well), Maybe a REAL built in camera. As you can see there are many posbillites to do with the PSP2, PSPi or even PSP3 in the future. Technology is getting better everyday, and for people to rule out the PSP just on the lack of games, they need to look at the bigger picture. A better program for music, better video quality, and of course online play and accessories would be ideal for the psp but the is just their Prototype. I am sure they will astound us with HIGH GRAPHIC GAMES and MOVIES soon to come. Well I am done and I will leave it at that.

VIVA LA PSP!!!
