I haven't seen the dev kit but who says it's limited to 2D games?

it's not, but if you want to be developing in 3d you'll probably want something like the Havok engine, which will be in neighbourhood of $100 (pure guess), and is probably a month or two away.

I believe tomorrows release of Xna game studio Express is just the first public beta, a final version is scheduled for holiday. Worth a look nonetheless!

you can get havoc for 30 Euro on certain site but i would advise dark basic pro way better about 70 Euro. you need to be able to use 3d modelling software like max to use a 3d engine, so don't bother with engine if you can't model anything just to let you'se no.

I think it comes with the torque engine for free so you can do some 3D stuff with it.
