Hirai: No Rumble In PS3 Pad Due To Cost >
2006/10/04 17:20:32: Posted by DM
According to Gamedaily, Sony has admitted that including force feedback in their motion-sensing sixaxis controller is technically possible. Kaz Hrai says that doing so woudl make the controller far more expensive though, and Sony does not want that. You decide on the validity of this.

To me rumble is a must have these days. WoW!! is this very very stupid of Sony. I wonder if someone like Mad Catz could include rumble? As much as i hate Mad Catz i hope they can.

well go go they cant cause the developers arint building ps3 games with rumble

The only thing is that if the original console designed not to use rumble then i dont think other companies would make a controller that has rumble because no developers would design a game haveing it. idk someone can clarify that if they want.

No rumble in Heavenly Sword blows...

but that wont stop the game from being incredible.

here's to hoping this motion sensing stuff really is the "wave" of the future.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/10/04

It isn't Rubix... its not even a question. Sony themselves knows it isn't.

The reason the ps3 doesn't have rumble is because sony lost in court to immersion over copyright infringment and now refuse to actually use their technology the way they should've the entire time pay licencing fees. This motion sensing thing isn't sony's first choice rumble is, but of course they'll never admit to that.

Way to insult my intelligence, Kaz...no rumble b/c you didn't want an extra controller to cost too much??? The damn console already costs $599!!!
Written by blah on 2006/10/04

if sony added rumble, it would really make a lot of people happy. The question is..since the controller is said to be at least 40 bucks in Japan, are you willing to shell out 50 bucks for an extra controller with the rumble?

Response to LoL,

You did a great job of gathering Internet information that points out a lot of Sony's lies and deceptions. I particularly like the one where Sony was supposedly going to announce that their laptop betteries do not explode, but there is a picture of one exploding! I read that at the end of September, there was an article that said a Sony battery caught on fire and exploded at an airport. The article was headlined as something like, "Latest Sony Embarrassment."

I agree with you, Sony has really had a lot of defects with things like Laptop batteries, Blu-ray hardware, Blu-ray discs, Playstation 3 hardware, Playstation 3 games, televisions, and many other things. In my opinion, Sony is not a good company to buy from at this point in time when it comes to consumer electronics. We will have to see if they get things right for the Playstation 3. In my opinion, the Wii will probably end up with very few defects, but I think the Playstation 3 will have lots of defects.

Response to Optaviusx,

I agree with you that it a really bad thing that Playstation 3 games will not feature support for any of their games. Fighting games are one of the main types of game that will miss rumble benefits. Football and Boxing and Hockey would probably be the other ones that we miss it a lot with. And First Person Shooters, and Third Person Shooter...LOL...It seems as though will will actually miss rumble benefits in just about every game!

Funny , even with all this conspiracy agains sony , they manage to get the bigger fan base and more than 100 millions consoles sold.

bateries are bateries , consoles are consoles.

I now sony is being arrogant because this numbers of consoles sold and their position on the industry , but lets try seing some more positive aspects instead of shotting ps3 name.

yeah when you play a new version of a game your like wow look at the graphics.. but then when you play the older version of the same game and you get all that rumble when something happens.. you kinda miss that.

Well than I will be the first one to ask:

And what about BackwardCompat games that didn't have vibration just for estetics but to influence more or less gameplay, not to mention games that needed them to have total control over the game?

As for 3rd party controllers - well even if someone would want to build controller with vibrations, PS3 couldn't send any data to control them.

Rumble is so vital in the following genres that its almost a crime to exclude it from a system thats supposed to be an all out assault on your senses;

Action adventure

FPS

Driving

Hmmmm so thats three of the top 5 most vital genres.

dammit.

Oh well as long as Gears of War has it.

Hello Fellow Gamers. All Sony had to do was settle with emersion. But again they get the "Big Headed Attitude".

MAKAVELI - we all know about the 100mil PS2. This isn't about the 100mil PS2. It's about the 0 mil PS3 that aren't sold yet. Sony has a lot of ground to make up in short period of time this year & next.

I will miss the rumble feature on the PS3. That's why i'm glad to have a X360 to make up for it. So, IF the same games are coming out on both systems, I going to get the X360 version. Why ..well the rumble feature for 1. I love rumble, plain & simple. If you have been playing the PS2 for all these years, you have been using rumble. Don't kid yourself if think you won't miss this feature. Why mess with a good thing Sony? Kinda sad though.

Rumble is Gone for Official PS3 Controllers....Get Over It...

Bring on Third Party Controllers w/ Rumble...
Written by Jagosix (67) on 2006/10/05

Hello Fellow Gamers.

@ cyrix_0. The games have to be programmed to use the rumble features, therefore the immersion rumble code must also reside inside the game. Again Sony cannot have any of the immersion technology in any part of their game. The lawsuit was use of their technology in the games & controllers. 3rd parties & sony will still have to pay royalties to immersion for use of their code. Otherwise SOny will have to develope their own unique patented rumble technology that no 1 has. IF they use any code from any-1 that already has a patent on said features another lawsuit will sure to follow.

Rumble is nice in some instances, but overall not that important to a game. When I play most of my games, I don't even notice the rumble unless it is some big explosion. If you have the correct sound system for your next gen console anyway, you won't need controller rumble because the Dolby 5.1 (the .1 being a sub-woofer that uhhhhh rumbles alot) will give you all the rumble you need.
