Genji 2 On PS3 To Feature HDD Install Option >
2006/10/20 21:50:38: Posted by DM
Genji 2 will appartnly feature an option to install the game on the PS3's HDD, committing 4GB of data from the game's Blu-Ray disc to the console's storage medium. This procedure, available from the game's start menu, will apparently cut down in-game load times (from about 15 seconds to 4 seconds). It is also said that Ridge Racer 7 may feature a similar option. Let's hope this turns into a trend!

This is one of the biggest problems with Xbox 360--most developers don't take advantage of the HDD it's not standard.

Sounds cool either way.

Considering how slow BRx2 is [2 times slower than DVDx12 - precisly its 6.5x speed] it's very wise decision.

Loading times on PS3 otherwise would sucks as badly as PSP ones...

hell yeah now I will dl my games at my friends house and vice versa.

bob, developers are taking full advantage of the HDD in the 360, just as much as in the xbox1 or the ps3. when 90%+ of your consoles have a HDD, its standard enough. you can design a game to look if a HDD is there and take advantage of it, in fact the line of code is only 2 or 3 lines.

in reality this is a wise choice to offset the slow load times of the BR drive.

This was obviously coming; its one of the benefits of having the foresight to include something as rudimentary as an HDD as std. equipment.

And 2x BD is hardly slow; its not as fast as 12X DVD... but, its definitely not slow; and, its not as FREAKIN' LOUD (whir whir) since its only spinning at 1/6th the speed.

Hello Fellow Gamers. Smarty Pants - Whats with the "its not as FREAKIN' LOUD (whir whir) since its only spinning at 1/6th the speed" I can't even hear my Disc spin in my x360. Especially since it's CONNECTED TO THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM. How can you guys even hear the disc spin thru all that music (do you even listen to the music in games?)Hhhmmmm....

most people play games through a tv with crappy sound, thats probally why there 360 sounds so loud, as where i use a 7.1 but the 360 only works with 5.1 so anyone want 2 speakers?

Kenny K

360 devs ARENT taking full advantage of the HDD because of the simple fact the HDD isent a standard and they have to develop games for the lease common denominator.. thats core players out there that only use memory cards

MS screwed themselves by not having the HDD standard across the board like sony

also using a labtop HDD which is more expensive is gonna be alot if $$$ when a bigger one is released

the ps3 uses a standard 2.5 SATA... which is much cheaper

LOL .. MS is giving you guys so many choices:

$50 XBL Gold

$100 WIFI

$100 13gb HDD

$200 HD-DVD

And, because you're so empowered now, the devs cant count on any other these add-ons to enhance their games. So, they develop for the lowest common denominator.

And, for a media device meant to sit in your living room... 360 is FREAKIN' LOUD!.. whir whir ..lol

Hello Fellow Gamers. the title is "Genji 2 On PS3 To Feature HDD Install Option" . Ok Now while that is ok, but also that might be a loop hole in the security issue.

$50 (Yearly) XBL gold - The BEST Online console service period. Not Sony nor Nintendo can best what M$ has done with live over the years.

$100 WIFI - only if you need or want it. I got mine for $25. The X360 interface handles the Wifi not the Developers.

Again smarty please stick to the subject @ hand & post other replies in the forums. I will respond to no more none subject posts except to remind people to STICK TO THE SUBJECT @ HAND.

13gb yes of course.

Good that PS3 give you even more choices

Buy 25$ pilot propertiary from Sony ... or not

Buy new joypad afer the one you have craps after year of gaiming ... or not buy and no play then

Buy HD cables ... or not and play in 480i

The whole HDD thing is pretty neat, but im pretty sure load times from Blu-Ray wouldnt be that bad either. I saw the GTHD gamers day demonstration on gametrailers.com and the load time was about 5 seconds from menu to gameplay. I'm pretty sure it was running on disc because other games in the event were running on discs. Who knows. all i know is, loading times won't be horrifingly slow for the PS3.

jago; my point was that having equipment as std. is a good thing. Some may say that its shoving BD or an HDD down people's throuts, but, if its there devs can use it (ok, the WiFi ref. was a jab). Genji one example of how standard equipment, which others have brushed off as useless (not necessarily in this post), helps make the game better.

And, the lack of HDMI cables (blah)? Well you can always upgrade your cable, but, you can never add an HDMI port to your console.

And, all consoles can benefit from an install option; no matter how fast the drive is.

I meant ... (LoL) ..not (blah) ..soryy

It's fanboys like you that start flame wars.IMO I think the PS3 is less than a 360 but only to certain degree. Most people want to just play the damn games that's it not have a blu-ray to come with it.me personally I'm getting a PS3 after I get HD-DVD for 360.

If Playstation 3 games are going to take up 4GB worth of space, just to reduce loading times, that is a MAJOR problem!!!

This means that if you have a 20GB Playstation 3, you would only be able to have about 4 games that use this option! That is NOT a good thing!!!

Also, if Sony is telling the truth that it won't be long before their non-compressed Blu-ray discs use 50GB dual-layer discs rather than the 25GB single-layer discs currently in use, then that would mean the games would take up 8GB of space on the hard-drive, just to reduce load times...that is TERRIBLE!!!

That means it won't take very long before 2 games could end up using all your space on the $499 PS3, and just 6 games could end up using all the space on the $599 PS3!!!

A lot of that is speculation, but it is speculation that makes me shake my head in disappointment while speculating!!!
