Halo Movie Preproduction Officially Halted By MS & P Jackson >
2006/10/31 9:23:26: Posted by DM
Well folks, it looks like MS and PEter Jackson's resolve in finding new backers for their Halo movie project has run out. In an official statement today, both Jackson and MS have announced that the movie's pre-production has been officially halted. We will just have to wait for Halo 3 to get our fill of the Halo universe for now.

"As was previously confirmed, we deeply regret that both Universal and Fox did not choose to move forward with financing the Halo film under the original terms of the agreement. At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen. We are fully supportive of Director Neill Blomkamp's vision of the film. Neill is a tremendously gifted filmmaker and his preliminary work on Halo is truly awe-inspiring. While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait."

that sucks. i can honestly say i didnt see this coming, with so many studios originally fighting for the rights to publish the movie, im surprised they didnt find a replacement.

at least Uwe Bowel isnt making the film, if that was the case i would curse it to hell.

They should just hire the CGI studio that created the trailer for Halo Wars to do a CGI Halo movie.

that would be a good option. honestly im VERY curious to see how they transelate the halo universe into real world settings.

im kinda split down the middle with this move. with microsoft and bungie being so strict on the guidelines for the movie, its a safe bet it wont suck like so many other game movies. however at the same time to accurately portray the characters in halo on the big screen is a bit of a gamble, with this movie it will be hit or miss IMHO. either it will be awesome or the movie will bomb big time

Well, if the delay means they get to make the movie exactly how they want, sounds like a good idea. The only problem I see is that if it bombs, no one except for Bungie to blame.

I'm very disappointed weta the guys that did work on lord of the rings and chronicles of narnia were helping with this movie. Peter jackon and fran walsch and bungie was determined to get the story right, the director is new and extremely talented and is just what this movie needs.

It has an incredible script.

the studios have no faith in video game movies. I hope microsoft can work something out in the near future. I was really excited about this one, its a shame...

"I'm very disappointed weta the guys that did work on lord of the rings and chronicles of narnia were helping with this movie". Does that mean your not happy that they were working on the movie opta?

Unless MS changes the financial terms, i dont see why any studio would want to take this on. To them, the top priority is about return on investment, not making fanboys happy... which is basically how it goes for all movies. In this case, the ROI has to be huge since they are taking on all the financial risks... MS wins no matter what.

And, outside of the gaming scene, no one knows about or is interested in Halo; i can understand that this is hard to believe, but, its very true.

^^i think more people know a little something about halo than you think. They may not know the story at all but the name is widley known. the movie would succeed without a doubt.
