This is interesting news. Personally, I would rather have one of the hybrid discs with both an HD-DVD and a standard DVD than one of these hybrids that includes an HD-DVD and a Blu-ray.

Obviously, the reason for this is because I have one HD-DVD player at home, but three standard DVD players. If I buy a movie, there are going to be times when I want to watch the HD-DVD movie on my HDTV, but it is great that I can use the same hybrid disc to play on my standard DVD player. Blu-ray doesn't offer that kind of technology right now, because it wasn't selected as the official success to the DVD format by the DVD Forum.

Generally speaking, most people are saying that VF5 coming to the Xbox 360 was the final straw that officially broke the back of the PS3, and many websites are now referring to the PS3 as the BS3 (BetamaxStation 3).

If there is a hybrid disc that combines Blu-ray and HD-DVD, it certainly doesn't help either of them win a format war. The Playstation 3 isn't helped if the Blu-ray fails, and it isn't helped in a stalemate...This means that Sony's plan isn't working, and when you consider that sales of the HD-DVD format are increasing significantly, then you can see that things are actually getting bad for the Blu-ray format and bad for Sony.

Consider that HD-DVD discs are the only ones that currently have the hybrid technology of both HD-DVD and standard DVD, and consider that there are a lot more HD-DVD owners than Blu-ray owners.

HD-DVD is more popular for three reasons: (1) Thanks to better than expected sales of HD-DVD players, (2) Thanks to better than expected sales of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD expansion, (3) Thanks to the poor sales of the Playstation 3.

I really do think that Blu-ray really is a failure similar to the Betamax and all of Sony's other failed formats.

Experts are now saying that HD-DVD is the way to go as far as disc technology. I talked to quite a few people who attended the Consumer Electronics Show, and the general consensus is that HD-DVD is a safer bet in terms of which format will have more success.

I think it is very cool that Xbox 360 owners can now download high-definition movies and TV shows to their Xbox 360 systems without any sort of disc at all. That is kind of like having a movie rental place in your home!

If you click on the link at the top of this page, you will se a picture of the Superman Returns hybrid disc. On the back of the box, you can see the features included in the HD-DVD side of the disc, and the features included in the Blu-ray side of the disc.

The features are identical in every area EXCEPT FOR ONE: The HD-DVD has superior sound! The HD-DVD includes Dolby True HD, and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1, while the Blu-ray only has Dolby Digital 5.1

This CLEARLY shows that even on hybrid discs, the HD-DVD version is still the superior version.

Five companies of Hollywood are only for Blu-ray.

It corresponds to both of two companies.

It is only Universal Pictures only for HD DVD.

Blu-ray is more than it in though HD DVD was announced 300 title sale schedule with CES2007. The monopoly contract between Universal Pictures and HD DVD will end in 2006. Universal Pictures did not announce a new title of HD DVD with CES2007. I think that Universal Pictures does the entry announcement to Blu-ray this year. I think that time of the announcement of a new title of Universal Pictures.

Top 20 of DVD sales in 2006. It is one title only for HD DVD. They are 14 titles only for Blu-ray.

The person who doesn't see "King Kong" doesn't want HD DVD. Sales of Blu-ray and HD DVD are already the same. It is natural to increase sales of Blu-ray in the number of companies in Hollywood.

However, neither sells so much compared with DVD, too. Your idea is too bias, and it is a fundamentalist.

last time i check hd-dvd and blu ray are no where in any dominate stages, yet alone which one is doing any better because they are just doing plain blah atm.

Especially with the higher price tag now on HD-DVD, and audiophille on no DTS with 360 (Though PC connect works fine with powerdvd HD) you gotta wonder.

You're hilarious prof.. have you forgotten that your 360 doesnt have HDCP and thus cant access the HD-spec audio streams (True HD and that other one). Time for you to buy a real HD-DVD player.

Need to check your facts and think outside of the MS dream world you live in Biased Professor. With the exception of Universal, Blu Ray has all major movie studios support. It has HUGE corporate support that HD-DVD just can't match. It also isn't a Sony Proprietary format, so your bias against it can be dropped. Sony is just one of the MANY major corporations who support it. HD-DVD got the jump, but the outlook is bleak IMO. But that is my opinion. It doesn't make it a fact, much like you allegedly talking to attendees of CES.

..isn't a fact.

edit* sentence continued

doesn't make your or their opinions facts.

Theres no way i will invest in hd-dvd/blu ray until we have a winner.

However , if everybody think like there will be no winner lolll...

Im looking forward to the hd-dvd add on of the xbox 360.

I got the HD-DVD player for 360 and PS3 so I dunno know which one to support.

atm I have 4 HD-DVD movies and 0 blu-ray but I plan on purchasing some soon

I think the BLURAY/HD-DVD hybrid discs would be a good idea. Why punish the consumer who just wants to watch your film for which format they decided to go with. To me its just XBOX and SONY flexing their muscles back and forth.
