Konami To End MGS 3 Subsistence Online Service In April >
2007/02/28 12:20:52: Posted by DM
Apparently, Konami revealed today that they will be halting the MGS3 Susbsistence online service in North America starting on April 2, 2007. Konami thanks all the players who participated in the game, and who have supported the MGS series over the years. Konami also had this to say:

The Metal Gear online tradition of stealth, action and team play continues on the PSP system with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops with all-new characters, levels and modes of play.

This leads us to believe the move is in an attempt to push up sales of the PSP MGS games.

Unfortunately this isn't entirely new. I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading about EA shutting down servers for some 05 games near the end of 06. This is one of the negative points usually made towards Sony's online approach, when leaving the developers/publishers to host the servers, your also leaving your game open for dropped support.

If Sony is going to keep ranting about how the PS2 is still selling well, even though the Playstation 3 isn't, then they need to do their best to keep people playing the Playstation 2...and this isn't a good thing.

moves like these arent up to sony UTP. so how about you post something that actually adds to the topic for once?

Very true Kenny K, also to add this is why EA wanted their own servers on xbox live.

However, konami are likely taking it offline because the amount of people playing online does not justify keeping the servers up. I do not think this is an attempt to push the psp version because having a ps2 does not mean you have a psp, and so would not make sense. Just too add winning eleven 8, released 3 years ago made by konami still works online on the ps2.

European gamers though, will still have the servers up after April (for now)

well the MAIN reason that EA wanted to use their servers over LIVE was to justify the money spent building them. mainly built for ps2 support, EA wanted to take more advantage of their investment through the xbox as well. i just wish there online service was at least close to LIVE, you can tell a difference between a LIVE game and an EA game on the 360 or xbox.

I believe that UTP point was that Xbox Live hosts their servers, so games really don't ever get dropped as long as Xbox live is running the online portion, and he was trying to dis sony for not doing the same.

It really had nothing to do with the article.

Response to Rubix42...

Friend, I thank you very much!!!

I thank you for taking the time to point out what I was clearly stating.

Lately, Kenny K has been giving me a hard time...but it appears that other people clearly understood what I was saying, so I think he should leave me alone.

Once again, I thank you for sticking up for me and clarifying what I was refering to. You did an excellent job. A+ for you!

i never said that i didnt get your point UTP, but that never made a difference.

yes lately i have been giving you a hard time, it's not my fault though. YOU are the one who always have to post out of context (like here) or just off topic.

this has nothing to do with any desicion done by sony, so what was the point of you stating what sony has to do?
