God Of War 2 HD Mode Not Included In PAL Version >
2007/04/16 15:33:54: Posted by DM
It seems the PAL version of God Of War 2 does not include the special HD mode that the US version features. The reason given was that due to the localisation options in the game, there was no room left for the special HD mode.

Meh, its still better looking than any Wii game available.

Yes and anybody beliveing this - I have Eiffle Tower to sell - cheap!

Considering that exe files are "SOOOOOOO BIG" - few MB [3-10] and stripping some code will give so much of kB of space I have stinking suspition that it's all BIG STEAMY PILE OF BULLSH**

Problem is with PAL resolution 525-lines vs 480 - bigger than NTSC, with less frames 25 vs 30.

They simply dont want to rewrite some parts of engine because it costs MONEY.

So GET LOST EURO players!

thanks sony, you really love your Euro gamers. not that this is a big deal or anything, i really don't care about HD when playing a ps2 game.

The PS2 can output HD resolution?!??

Or is this when played on a PS3?

The PS2 can output HD resolution. I think it was Gran Turismo 4 that offered the 1080i resolution.

As for running out of room, they may mean in the VRAM. Here is what Tim Moss said about the HD mode on the 'secret' web page: [link removed]

if you'd read the quote referencing the HD mode, you'd see that it isn't exactly a huge upgrade as it hinders performance. It's really not a big deal, the game is incredible in all aspects .

If you have a good HDTV you can really see the difference, I just found out about this option and load an old save where i was at the last boss and i can clearly see the scales of the second to the last boss (Fat sister, with the spikey scales) compare to how the game was originally, frankly this option may not seem big technical wise, but i can clearly see the difference

I also use a CRT hdtv, maybe if you have an LCD with far native res on what the regular ps2 can display, would be harder to spot, but no doubt this option makes it look cleaner, i just wonder why it wasn't inplimented, i only had a short time to check it out and i don't see any performance drop, other than what you get originally (Low framerate at some areas, normal of gameplay).

The normal God of War 2 game only runs in a maximum of 480i resolution. When this article makes a reference to a "High-Definiton" mode, it is referring to the part of the God of War 2 where you can use a code to select a Display Output of 480p resolution.

Technically, 480p resolution is NOT considered "High-Definition," it is considered "Enhanced Definition."

Honestly, I have no clue why someone would be foolish enough to make the output of 480p something that is encoded in the game, rather than a standard feature in the markets it is available.

As far as what the PS2 "can or can't do," the answer is pretty simple. If you have any game system with Component video cables, then it is technically possible to display true high-definition graphics. The reason games on the PS2 and Gamecube almost never did was because it took up too many resources that could have been used for other forms of graphic improvement that a larger percentage of the market, without HDTV sets, could take advantage of.

I agree with Nemesis IX that this really is a good indication of the way European gamers are put last on Sony's list, though.

Umm.. GoW2 outputs 480p without the code.. it ASKS you if you want to output in 480p.. my xbrs says that its receiving a 480p without the code.. so shut UTP, you fool.

Smarty Pantz:

I haven't bought God of War 2 on the PS2. In all honesty, I am no longer of part of "The outdated generation." I only buy "Next-Generation," games at this point in time.

I was simply reporting to you about several articles that were written. If it's true that the PS2 does have the game set to automatically go to 480p resolution, then that is great.

I really have no clue why such a big deal would be made about the code for this particular game, though. I mean, if it does it automatically, why would you need a code to potentially release it. Something doesn't add up.

This proves you are not a true gamer. God of War 2 is an amazing game. You are only selling yourself short. Of course it's to be expected as your cult would likely hunt you down and dismember you if you were to contribute to a Sony product.

what the hell UTP your talking some ripe crap there, your missing out on some great games if your only going to buy games for a "next gen" console, even if you dislike sony consoles still come on thats no excuse to not play games that are actually great, like OKAMI that was an amazing game for the ps2. god of war isn't out till next week in europe but i'll be getting it straight away, even if the the person i hated most in the world owned sony i would buy the game because its a great game and not because of who made it.

since the "next gen" console have launched i have bought more "last gen" games then "next gen".

UTP: The big deal isnt about the game. Its about you and the ass you make of yourself in every thread.

Agreed. I'd never give up on any generation regardless of age. They all have their classics.
