No Final Fantasy Games Coming To Xbox360 Says Square >
2007/06/05 13:26:31: Posted by DM
Well, this is rather disturbing. Despite the information that has been available up to this point, now it seems that Square is not going to release any Final Fantasy titles at all on the Xbox360. A Square executive revealed this to Nikkei BP. When the website asked Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto if the Wii or Xbox 360 will also be getting games in the [Final Fantasy] series, he replied: "For the Wii, we have FF Crystal Chronicles in production," replied Hashimoto. "As for FF on the Xbox 360, it's currently a completely blank page." Wow.

Xbox 360 does shit in Japan, most of Square Enix's sales come from Japan = no surprise in no FF port for Xbox 360.

PS3 isn't doing that great either but much better than the Xbox 360
Written by neoimpulse on 2007/06/05

Disappointing, but then again I'm glad theres a reason to use my PS3 sooner or later.

Yo, NEW YORK, the Wii outsells the Playstation 3 by a ratio of 5:1 in Japan.

But here is what counts, the actual numbers:

Wii sold over 250,000 systems in Japan in May.

Playstation 3 sold only 50,000 systems in Japan in May.

Playstation 3 only sold 82,000 systems in the whole world in May.

This means the PS3 only managed to sell 32,000 systems in other parts of the world for May! PS3 may be doing bad in Japan, but it’s doing infinitely worse in North America and Europe!

Xbox 360 only sold about 12,000 systems in Japan in May. This means Xbox 360 was outsold in Japan by PS3 by the same 5:1 ratio and the PS3 is outsold by the Wii. But it's the actual numbers that count.

200,000 more Wii's were sold in Japan than PS3 systems.

But only 38,000 more PS3 systems were sold in Japan than Xbox 360 systems.

That isn't anything at all. Both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are selling like crap in Japan. Only the Wii is doing well.

But worldwide the Xbox 360 sold nearly 190,000 systems worldwide in May.

In North America and Europe the Xbox 360 is outselling the PS3 by a 5:1 ratio.

But the big difference is the actual numbers! North American and Europe are so much bigger than Japan!

That’s why the Xbox 360 gains so much of a huge sales lead on the Playstation 3 every month. This past month, the Xbox 360 gained a sales advantage of over 100,000 systems compared to the PS3. When you consider there are over eight million more Xbox 360 systems sold, and that lead grows by over 100,000 systems each month, it doesn’t look good for the PS3 in terms of sales, and that has the power to change minds over time. Look at all the games that weren’t supposed to be released for Xbox 360, but are now on the Xbox 360: Unreal Tournament 2007, Assassins Creed, Devil May Cry 4, Mercs 2, Fight Night Round 3, Virtua Fighter 5, and many others.

From one point of logic, this might actually be a sign that Final Fantasy 13 will be released for Xbox 360. Silence would have been a worse thing.

Final what? Sorry I'm too busy dreaming about Lost Odyssey and Cry On :)
Written by silverwolf on 2007/06/05

I wonder how many of those sold have gone back due to being defective? I myself went thru two 360's before I got pissed and just switched to the PS3. Besides everywhere I go there's a shit load of 360's in stock and one or two PS3's (no lies). We all know how they all count shipped as sold so I wouldn't count there or any internet based numbers as fact.
Written by Industry_Insider on 2007/06/05

Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360 is going to be the best RPG ever made. When Blue Dragon was released for Xbox 360 in Japan, 90,000 systems sold the first day. It will be like that with Lost Odyssey. Microsoft will include Lost Odyssey with the system in Japan, and they will make up for a lot of time with a big sales burst.

As far as Final Fantasy goes, it is a really long ways away, so who cares about it. I'm not waiting until the fall of 2008 for FF 13. There are too many great games to play now, on other systems anyways. By the time FF 13 is released over here in the USA, the PS3 will probably have dropped a couple hundred bucks.

Silverwolf, the reason there are always plenty of Xbox 360 systems on the shelves is because there is a large demand for the product; it gets the shelf-space it deserves according to consumer demand.

The reason only one or two Playstation 3 systems are in stock is because there isn't a very high consumer demand, and it is only given a small amount of shelf-space.

If you knew about business logistics you would know about JIT, which stands for Just-In-Time delivery.

Whever a product is sold at places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Sears, or Target, the computer database is aware of it, and another unit is placed on the next delivery truck.

Whether you realize it or not, you put your foot in your mouth about the Playstation 3.

The fact that the Playstation 3 only managed to sell 32,000 systems as a combined total for North America and Europe this past month is PATHETIC!

But it's not a surprise, because PS3 doesn't have a quality game library.
Written by X of 360 on 2007/06/05

PS3 has the two lowest sales months of any system that has been released. Sales continue to decline all the time; the most recent month was the lowest sales month for PS3 or any of the next-gen systems. If you compare the PS3 life cycle to the life cycle of the Xbox 360, the Xbox 360 had sold 4.5 million systems compared to only 3 million for the PS3.

Capcom has made it clear with their record breaking profits that sales in North America and Europe are what count.

Capcom officially said we wouldn't see Devil May Cry 4 on the Xbox 360. But less than 48 hours after that announcement, Capcom announced Devil May Cry 4 would be released for the Xbox 360 and PC at the same time as the PS3 version.

Final Fantasy 13 won't be released until late 2008 in Japan, and we probably won't see it in North America or Europe until 2009. That is a LOT more than 48 hours for Square Enix to change their mind. I have a feeling the “blank page” that “currently” exists is going to be written on in the future.

UTP, I do remember what you said about FF games and Xbox360.

Wonder who has the last laugh here.

Hahaha.

Oooh, and the Defenders of the Xbox360 comes out one by one. Industry_Insider, ugh... don't just rephrase everyting UTP said. Make up some of your own excuses too.

"The reason only one or two Playstation 3 systems are in stock is because there isn't a very high consumer demand, and it is only given a small amount of shelf-space."

Funny how if this was turned the other way around you would be saying the the reason why there's only two 360's in stock is because they are selling rather well. The only reason they should have that many 360's is due to defective hardware replacement IMHO.

"Whether you realize it or not, you put your foot in your mouth about the Playstation 3."

Actually you did, not once did I mention sales I just stated what I've seen on the retail channel. And not to relay on internet say so but on official numbers.

You can call the sales on the PS3 pathetic well cause they are. No games, nuff said. Take a look at the latest fumitsu most wanted chart (source kotaku):

1. Dragon Quest IX (DS, Square Enix)

2. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Square Enix)

3. Biohazard 5 (PS3, Capcom)

4. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3, Konami)

5. Monster Hunter 3 (PS3, Capcom)

6. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS, Nintendo)

7. Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Wii, Square Enix)

8. Super Robot Taisen: Original Generations (PS2, Banpresto)

9. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, Nintendo)

10. Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360, Microsoft)

Now once these games come out it'll be a whole different ball game, like it or not.
Written by Jagosix on 2007/06/05

Hello Fellow Gamers. If FFX whatever is all that SONY has to fall back on, then they're doomed. It'll take more than that 1 game (which won't be out until fall 08') to bring the PS3 on top. In the mean time(presently), The X360 & Wii are gaining more & more sale over the PS3 every month.

With HALO3 coming out early, we all know that nothing is going to outsell that product for this year. Which means even more sales of the X360 game system.

All of thse games scored at least an 8 on Gamespot. I have seen them socre higher on 1up and IGN. I suggest U try Jumping in before U spout your opinion about 360 games... Like I said RFOM and Motorstorm type of games are in abundance on the 360 already!!!!!

I have defended U a few times because every one was ganging up on U. But these multiple username posts are just SICK dude... Just do your usual UTP Shtick where U copy and paste repeated anti_Sony opinions and be done with it already!!!!!
Written by Smarty Pantz on 2007/06/05

I dont know why people are so upset; just buy a PS3 or Wii. If you're really into FF then thats exactly what you're do... just like you would buy a 360 to play halo3.
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/06/05

It's pathetic when people will do/say ANYTHING to make their personal favourite looks good. I'm a Sony fanboy, but I wouldn't go out of my way like the two obvious examples above.
Written by madgunde on 2007/06/05

Wow, the 360 fanboys are a tad defensive today, aren't they? If Sony is in that much trouble, then why do you feel the need to sell the 360 so hard? If the 360 is going to kick ass so bad, then why waste your time? Oh, I know, because deep down inside, you know that PS3 is going going to eat the 360 for lunch come next year so you're desperate to get more people to buy your console.

Sony is still selling far more consoles than Microsoft is. Remember the PS2? It's still kicking the 360's ass. Most of those PS2 owners will buy a PS3 when they're ready to upgrade to HD and their favorite games are out (FFXIII, MGS4, etc.) So enjoy it while it lasts.
Written by NUTTSACK on 2007/06/06

madgunde: I think your the one who is insecure. Its sad that the PS2 outsells the PS3... Sony is canabalizing it's own PS3 sales... Every day the Wii and 360 gain momentum as a result. What dont U understand about $600.00 MSRP????? Ya the PS3 is selling, but not at the rate Sony or its fans want it to, not even close. How many people can afford to upgrade to a 1080P HDTV with HDMI 1.3??? How many people are tired of their DVD collections. I know people who still have VHS. U keppe talking about next year. But the facts show that the 360 and Wii have2-3 times the amount of consoles sold worldwide as the PS3. U wait till next year. U act like the 360 and Wii wont have good games too, or sell anymore consoles. Live in the past. Remember once upon a time ago Nintendo was King too... We know how that turned out :p

Oh and seriously why the heck are people still buying PS2's??? Are they replacing broken PS2's or are they just dumb, deaf, and blind??? The PS2 has been out since November of 2000 here in the US. Kinda late dont U think???
Written by jlemdon on 2007/06/06

I'm glad it's a PS3 exclusive otherwise I wouldn't get it for PS3.

seriously though we need some kind of exclusives for systems if they don't have exclusives then what system would be beneficial
Written by arthur56k on 2007/06/06

silver, do you live in the states or in europe, either way, any defective unit is replaced, not counted as another unit sold, plus isnt the 360 beating the ps3 everywhere except for japan??? if you are a RPG fan, the FF series has always been big, so was BD in japan, and the same will probably be true for LO.

@@@ madgunde, that is lame, the battrle aint between the ps2 and the 360, in any case, isnt the older console outselling the ps3??????
Written by CianMCL on 2007/06/06

ah nuttsack quick note bout fifa 07 it sucks like every fifa game
Written by silverwolf on 2007/06/06

@arthur56k

I live in the US. I don't go around posting like I know the retail industry and there tricks (but they do have them you know). Many keep forgetting that the 360 has launch in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, India, Brazil, Poland, Czech Republic. While the PS3 has only launched in US, Japan, Europe, Australia at a much higher price to say the least. 360's selling better is not a surprise considering the price and the amount or territories it's already available in (+150 games). How is this fair comparison? Price drop + games will bring the heat regardless if the 360 has been launched in more areas IMHO.

Written by madgunde on 2007/06/06

@NUTTSACK, arthur56k

This isn't a war between 360 and PS3, it's a competition between two game console makers. As long as Sony is selling a crap load of consoles, they're a strong contender, not on their deathbed like some would portray them. The fact that Wii and PS2 sales are greater than either 360 or PS3 shows that the majority of consumers aren't ready for next gen.

Microsoft and Sony just have two different strategies, which are working well for both. Microsoft decided to abandon the XBox 1 and put all their weight behind their 360. Xbox 1 owners are affected by that because fewer developers will develop new games for their platform. Sony on the other hand opted for a more gradual shift from PS2 to PS3.

Just because the PS3 isn't outselling the 360 now, doesn't mean it can't or won't in the future. Sure PS2 sales are cannibalizing PS3 sales to a certain degree, but they're also cannibalizing Wii and 360 sales as well and Sony is making good money off of it, so it only makes sense for them to keep it going. It's great for PS2 owners because there are still plenty of new games being released.

When it comes time to upgrade their console to next-gen, those PS2 buyers are far more likely to upgrade to the PS3 because they'll feel more comfortable investing in a console that will be supported for 8-10 years than one that gets dropped like a bastard stepchild after 5-6. Same goes for developers. MS's strategy is all about the quick return, Sony's is a longer term strategy (as is common for the Japanese). Both strategies have their merits and will probably work well for each company, but anyone who thinks the current situation foretells the future will probably be proven wrong.
Written by NUTTSACK on 2007/06/06

madgunde: Nice spin... The problem is if the PS3 continues to lag in sales and have such a high non massmrket price tag it won matter when the casual buyers decide to upgrade, Even though I am not a fan of the Wii's graphics they made a console anyone can get into and afford. With the 360 and PS3 U will need an expensive HDTV to enjoy the experience. Broadband internet access will be a must too. I dont think eithe Microsoft or Sony will come close to 100 million consoles sold this time around... But I do think that if Microsoft can continue to get developer support, have a significantly larger install base, and better online strategy then they can firmly establish themselves as the leader this generation.
Written by madgunde on 2007/06/06

@NUTTSACK

No spin, that's just the way I see it. Sony's answer to the Wii right now is the PS2, and it's putting up a respectable fight given it's age. That's a huge install base that's just waiting to upgrade when the time is right, and they're more likely to get a PS3 than a 360. By the time they are ready to upgrade, the price of the PS3 will be lower, and there will be a larger library of exclusive games to sweeten the pot, along with PS Home, rumble in the SIXAXIS. Where the PS3 is right now is not and indicator of where they will be in 6 months, a year, or two years.

Sony is the only console vendor that actually has something to offer to both the casual, non-HD customer and the next-gen customer. In two years, HD will be important to a lot more people and Nintendo may have a problem maintaining the Wii's success unless they bring out a new HD-capable Wii.
Written by NUTTSACK on 2007/06/06

madgunde: Now I do agree with U on the whole Wii argument. I am mostly buying one to play family games with my children and friends in home. However I to question how it will perform once the general public starts to upgrade to HD. But the slightly biased opinion I have of the 360 vs the PS3 questions whether the PS3 will overtake the 360 in the US and European markets. They basically perform the same. Only the 360 will always be cheaper to manufacture and sell at retail, and has a nice head start. See those were advantages that the PS2 had over the original XBOX and Gamecube. I honestly think with Microsoft's deep pockets they are in this for the long haul... We wont see any of these consoles dominate like in the past...
Written by madgunde on 2007/06/06

@NUTTSACK

I agree we won't see any one vendor dominate like the last generation. I'm not saying Sony is going to wipe the mat this time around, I'm just saying I think those people who are calling the PS3 the next dreamcast are way out of touch. My prediction is the PS3 will eventually catch up to the 360 and beat it in sales, but it'll be a drawn out battle and it will take Sony a couple of years to accomplish and in the meantime 360 owners will benefit from a strong showing this time around. PS3 owners have a lot to look forward too as well, but the console won't hit it's stride until late 2007 when some of the big iron comes out and hopefully a price drop.
Written by NUTTSACK on 2007/06/07

Madgunde: I hear ya. Wow we are having a civilized debate even... U know I usually go by the nexgenwars website for my up to date sales numbers. But even the vgchartz website that Sony fanboys die for showed me some intersting things. PS3 has shipped 5.5 million consoles worldwide but only sold 3.3 million of those. 2.2 million sitting on store shelves or in stock... Plus they havent even sold a million consoles in thier own home land, thats with the cheapest worldwide pricepoint of $$25.00 for the 20GB PS3. Then I noticed that although the 360 hardware was outsold in Japan last week, the 360 actually had a game in Japan that cracked the top 50 where as the PS3 didnt. Then I also noticed the 360 sold more software than the PS3 did. Check it out and get back to me on that...
Written by arthur56k on 2007/06/08

i dont beleive that i didnt see this earlier, @@ silver, even if you compare the sales in the regions where both consoles are found, the total 360 sales beat the ps3 sales, so you are saying nothing, just trying to side step, look at when the 360 sales started slipping, and when the ps3's dipped, again no comparison.

games will do nothing if the console is too expensive for the average joe, i said it before the console ever launched look up my posts, what they need is a price cut, but it may not be feasible at the current moment and time

@@@ madgunde, when the original xbox and the gamecube were launching, if i remember correctly, Sony did drop the console price soon after by 100 bucks, the ps2 was then enjoying a better price point to the newer consoles, plus its predecessor had been king of the previous generation, the xbox was an unknown quantity, and the gamecube was coming after a lackluster N64, who did you really expect to win, add that to the fact that third party developers favored the ps2 as the console of choice.

do i expect that ps3 to eventually win, yes, and ive said it numerous times, but it wouldnt suprise me if they didnt, if MS comes with the bigger price cuts first, then they may have the beating of sony, plus a lot of third party developers are going multi platform, that is an adventage Sony currently doesnt have

plus you are forgetting that Sony cannot manage the losses they are making in the long run, thus a price cut in the near future is highly unlikely, they need their software to really sell, but you cannot do that without the required number of consoles being sold. the ps2 hasnt been abandoned mainly because its the only cash cow that Sony currently has in the gaming sector, MS may have done the unthinkable in abandoning the xbox, but it has come out better for the 360, and the only reason the ps3 is going to be out there in the long run is because sony have to recoup their humongous losses.

id love to see your reply
Written by LostHack on 2007/08/20

what's the big f-ing deal about which system will out do the rest? who cares? are you guys investing money into the companies behind the systems? or are you simply trying to boast about the systems you purchased so you don't feel foolish for paying 500-600 dollars?

The bottom line is simple, there are three important factors that will make a particular system dominate the market:

1. High quality video game library

2. Low average price of video games

3. Low price for the system
