Aaron Greenberg From MS Calls Out Sony's PSN >
2007/06/13 8:59:40: Posted by DM
Aaron Greenberg, one of the Xbox Live Executives at Microsoft, has called out Sony's PSN online gaming service. Greenberg defended MS's decision to charge for online multiplayer, and claims that the XBL service offers more overall, thus justifying the monthly fee. According to Greenberg as well, of the 3 million players who participate in Live, over half are Gold members, which means over half think it is worth the money. Why Greenberg felt the need to call out Sony, we are not sure.

Xbox Live is FAR superior to the online services offered by Sony.

Even in this months Independent Playstation Magazine the editors specifically say that in terms of Online Gaming Performance the Xbox 360 completely outperforms anything offered by the Playstation 3.

In fact, the actual words used in the July 2007 issue say, "Online. Suck it up, Sony. Xbox 360 has you licked. As promising as Home is, by the time it matures, the 360's integrated approach and rapidly expanding media options could see it completely out of sight."

The editors then try to give some advice to Sony, but they point out some facts that make it clear Xbox 360 and Xbox Live will remain the best online service offered for gamers for a long time to come:

"What to do? Same d*mn thing they did, and just deal with the PR problem of ripping off Achievements and deliver what's best for gamers. Do the right thing. Hokey or not, Achievements make gamers play games. The upcoming (and pretty spectacular-looking) Turok will provide PS3 owners with Accomplishments where the 360 Achievements kick in - though without the integrated GamerScore, nobody will know. So how about a trophy for your Home? No dice, since the devs apparently don't have enough information or details from Sony on what Home will be in order to implement anything worthwhile. Fix this."

When the editors of Playstation magazines talk about how upset they are with the disappointing online performance of the Playstation 3, and the disappointing problems still on the horizon for the PS3, it is very easy to see why Aaron Greenberg is saying all of these wonderful things about the services offered by Xbox Live for the Xbox 360.

There is no doubt about it, the Xbox 360's Xbox Live service is the best way to play games online in the history of gaming. According to the plans of both Sony and Microsoft, the Xbox Live is going to remain the best Online service for gaming, even the Playstation magazine editors admit that fact.

I agree with you UTP...but I have a problem with Greenberg even making the comments directed at Sony in the first place. Why even mention the crappy PS online network in the first place? I have no problem if he wants to get in front of reporters and spout off about Live but why does he feel the need to throw Sony into the mix? He ends up sounding more like a little kid bragging about how much better his toy is than the competition's. I think it would almost be a better PR move to not even mention Sony at this point and act as if they've already lost the next-gen race...since that's the way it looks to be heading anyway. He should be focusing more on how Live will grow and expand with digital downloads and games like Halo 3 on the horizon. Why even mention Sony when you have so much positive going on right now?

well if you finish reading the whole thing, he does praise sony for some things...
