MS Says 'Third Parties Shifting From PS Brand To XBox' > |
2008/10/10 11:26:20: Posted by DM | |
Aaron Greenberg, the MS director of product management, spoke with Major Nelson at TGS. He said he believes there has been a shift from the Playstation brand to the Xbox brand. Of course, he is biased, but with the latest ex-PS-exclusive franchise now on Xbox360 (Tekken), along with games like Final Fantasy XIII, this may be partially true. Major Nelson has the entire audio interview posted at his site.

What the truth is..."The truth is that 3rd parties are shifting from being exclusive to the PS brand to being multiplatform...unless someone buys exclusivity, which is something we've been doing. The current state of video games and their development costs makes simple exclusivity impossible and is not cost effective without a little $$ being given by the console manufacturer."

It goes both ways man. Both Microsoft and Sony have to pay for 3rd party "exclusitivity" in some fashion. It makes no sense otherwise for a 3rd party to not go multiplatform.I think this dude at Microsoft has been sipping the koolaid a bit too much. Nice spin job Microsoft. I think sometimes these PR puppets need to STFU.

I have never cared for PR, but that's the whole point, to spew BS concerning their company.Regardless, it's clear that times are changing and Sony isn't the dominent force they used to be. I just hope this is one step towards a 1 console future so that we can concentrate on what really matters, the games.

I hope we never get to a 1 console future, because then the technical innovation dies from lack of competition.

The compeition will come from the software end where now all developers are forced to compete with each other. Hardware cycles should be longer which allows developers more time to squeeze out of the system. With standarized platform every generation, quality of software should go up as well, with more time to optimize and refine just one set of code instead of 2 or 3.We are hitting the point of diminishing returns on the hardware, so your argument doesn't hold much weight. Yeah, future hardware will be more powerful and such, but will probably never see the kind of jump we have seen from the last gen to this gen. The longer each console generation, the bigger the jump, which is something a 1 console future should contribute to.I can't stand the wanna-be gamers who tend to ruin a good time by licking the nuts of a specific company, a one console future would eliminate that and hopefully the fantards along with it.
There are benefits and risks to every situation, but a one console future would benefit gaming more than hinder it.
