Konami has announced that the subscribership for Metal Gear Online has hit the 1 million mark. This is despite the technical issues that have plagued the game since the last expansion. Konami has also planned a Commemorative Campaign contest that will run from November 25 through December 9, and any player accessing the game during that time will be rewarded with 10,000 points on the final day.

MGO was such a disappointment. Anyone else here really get into this game? First game I've ever played that actually felt like work to just get started playing online. Go through the Konami ID and Gamer ID BS only to find the game just wasn't worth the effort I put into signing up to play online. Especially when the alternative was playing COD4. Such a tragic waste of effort on the developer's part IMHO. It has potential, but just needed more baking time.

I stopped at the signing up to play online BS.

So far, IMO, stealth games are not designed for MP, even with major alterations to the gameplay mechanics.

As I understand it, MGO's gameplay is more akin to the SP, no? Well even when the mechanics differ greatly from the SP as in Splinter Cell, it still sucked IMO.

Besides, I play MGS for the SP, not the MP.

@Xenos

Yeah, I think the promise of a stealth action multiplayer is exciting to many but I don't think anyone has really figured out how to make it work in muliplayer. I mean, the whole point of stealth is you sneak up on your opponent or evade them. But how does that work if your opponent pretty much knows you're there?

MGO wasn't so much stealth action though, but more a SOCOM style of play. People did use stealth a bit, but more often than not it was straight up search and destroy type gameplay from what I saw. I think what killed it for me were the controls, which worked fine (but were far from perfect) for MGS4 single player, but were just too cumbersome for the fast paced action of an online shooter. This is where COD4 is king IMHO. They nailed the controls. Important when reaction time is everything.

I also found the Japanese cutesy 'style' a bit annoying. I find it hard to get into character as a tough mercenary when I'm hunting for a little purple pikachu type doll instead of a flag or a bomb. Like WTF?

You know... Splinter Cell had a very unique spin on the the stealth multiplayer genre. As a merc with a huge gun and a belt of grenades i was still scared sh*tless of those spies and their non-lethal gadgets.

You always knew they were there...Always....But you just had trouble pinpointing their exact location.

One taste of the beta was enough to tell me that the MGO was complete garbage.
