In a post-launch interview, the outspoken Cliffy B. from Epic warns gamers not to call Gears a "trilogy." He said the MS employee who called the game franchise a trilogy originally was wrong to do so. He even says you can call him a "douche" if you want, but give Gears a try. It seems Cliff always has something to say about something these days.

The worldwide sales of Gears of War 2 just beat 2 million units in the first weekend of the game's availability. Of course, this is no surprise, as the game's launch is said to be behind only Halo 3 and GTA IV, both hard games to top. Microsoft said that over 1.5 million people logged into Xbox Live with GoW2 over the weekend, logging a total of 15 million gameplay hours -- apparently a new XBL record.

It seems that the Limited Edition Gears of War 2 Golden Lancer Weapon code that gamers get as a bonus with the LE edition, is not working for more than a few gamers. As you can see by the thread on the official forums, you may have to call MS to obtain a new code. Better get on it quick before MS decides not to honor the bad code cards.

The latest issue of EGM has some interesting QMann Rumors. It seems that Epic's Cliffy B. may be working on a new title already -- a survival horror game. Like we do not have enough of those already, enough good ones, that is. It may mix the graphic elements of GoW with a new "psychological terror filled" story. It will be multi-platform, though, unlike Gears. Also, the people over at Media Molecule, the Little Big Planet creators, are hard at work now that the launch issues are fixed. There is supposedly a Metal Gear and Final Fantasy accessory DLC pack in the works. Great news, rumor mill of course.

In an interview with Gamasutra, Cliffy B. discussed why even pure action games like Gears of War 2 still need story to motivate. He reiterates why it is important to give the user the choice -- if they want to skip all the cutscenes, they can. He goes on to say though that it helps to grab the gamer within the first few scenes with a compelling tale. We tend to agree.

MS has confirmed that Gears of War 2 will not be released in either German or Japan due to the high level of violence. Japan was more of a question than Germany, but it seems both countries deemed the game too violent to classify. Importers unite.

Mark Rein, the voice of Epic, has revealed that there is a "major expansion" for Unreal Tournament 3 in the works. This was revealed when Rein was questioned about the state of relations between Epic and Midway, after Midway recently announced it is cutting some of the less popular games in production in order to help with financial troubles. Good news for the popular shooter.

"In fact, we're working together on a major expansion to Unreal Tournament 3, that we expect will excite and grow our UT3 customer base which, incidentally, now numbers over a million units sold-through world-wide."
