The first game I loaded up was Over G Fighters. As soon as I took off, I switched the controller to motion sensing mode, and everything went off without a hitch. The Bestilt operates in an identical fashion to the PS3 tilt sensing, which means in a game live Over g, the Bestilt functions to control Pitch and Yaw. I can tell you that if you plan to use the Bestilt on a regular basis, flight games will be your friend. The second game I used with the Bestilt was (what else) Blazing Angels. Yes, another flight game, why fight it? The game has a much more arcade style control setup than Over G, so I wanted to see how the unit performed in that atmosphere. I can happily report that the game responded well, although trying to shoot and use the tilt for control does take a decent amount of practice before you can do it well enough to wan your missions. Be that as it may though, the Bestilt performed exactly as it was supposed to.The last game I tried was Moto GP. The reason I chose this game is because tilting forward and backwards actually has an effect in-game. When you tilt forward you actually move forward on the bike, causing a shift in aerodynamics and weight. The Bestilt performed admirably yet again, although I cannot tell you that it will end up being more useful than a regular pad in a game like this. The XCM Xbox360 Bestilt motion-sensing add-on is definitely a clever product. The way that XCM overcame design limitations and came up with a compact and lightweight fully functional tilt-sensing unit for your existing Xbox360 pad deserves a lot of credit. Unfortunately, it seems the XCM Xbox360 Bestilt is a solution in need of a problem. The difficulty of the install process really makes this a project that only gamers who are handy with the soldering iron should attempt. You must also take into account the fact that developers for the Wii and PS3 are building games with tilt sensing capabilities in mind from day one. The Xbox360 developers, on the other hand, do not even give a thought to motion sensing in their games, or how their programming may affect a motion sensing device. Some sort of sensitivity setting for the Bestilt would go a long way to making the device have a much more universal appeal. XCM is always innovating and coming up with ways to keep next-gen console users like myself on the cutting edge of accessory and peripheral technology. The Bestilt is one of the most unique and innovative add-ons that I have ever reviewed. If the Xbox360 gets more flight titles and XCM tweaks the product a bit, I can see the Bestilt becoming a near-household item. For now though, I can only recommend the Bestilt to those of you who enjoying having every single control option available to you, and enjoy a challenging mod. XCM, though, is still doing exactly what they do best – giving gamers like you and me all the alternative control and input options we could ever want, options that MS would never provide. |
