There are other extras that come with the Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition, if you choose to purchase it. A “making of” Blu-Ray movie disc, as well as a soundtrack disc, are what you get for an extra $25 USD or so. This just sums up what Kojima productions are all about – the total package. In both his software and his packaging, Kojima is a master of presentation. While some game play elements may fall by the wayside in pursuit of perfection in said presentation, it really makes for a unique experience that few games besides MGS provide, be it online, offline, or otherwise. The single player mode of Metal Gear Solid 4, which is the main focus of the title, is a visual, theatrical, and technical feat. Hideo Kojima has stated that this game is his magnum opus, and so far, it seems like he is dead on. It is truly saddening that this is the end of Snake’s storyline, and I am sure you will find yourself wiping away a tear or two when you remember that fact during cut scenes. The game does have its flaws, and to be honest, Metal Gear Solid 4 is not a revolutionary title. MGS4 is something different, folks, it is an “evolutionary” title. Some might argue with me on this, but Metal Gear Solid 4 represents where a certain sect of games is headed, my faithful readers. The line between epic games and epic movies will get blurrier and blurrier until they possibly become one. MGS4 is ahead of its time, and for those of us who enjoy playing movies, it is the best movie-esque game that has been released on any system, to date. Those of you who still prefer straight action, do not worry, there are games like Battlefield and Call of Duty being made that are on their own evolutionary track. The simple fact is that anyone who considers themselves a gamer needs to grab MGS4 and play it, just to experience the game that took that next step in gaming evolution. |
