As I said, FC2 is not built like a regular FPS game. You can travel to different points on the map using a bus, or you can trek the wilderness. There are vehicles in the game, and while they are well implemented, just like the previous games the point of view you must use behind the wheel is a bit cumbersome to say the least. This is especially true when you have to switch to the gunsight. Combine this with the amount of virtual space the game provides, and you have a recipe for a bit of boredom and monotony. Another great innovation in FC2, is the selection of characters. You can initially choose from 10 playable people, and whichever you do not choose become the game's cast. They will fight by your side, and fight well. If they die, guess what -- they are gone for good. You are given a choice to fork over a health syringe in order to save them, or you can even put a bullet in them yourself. Oh boy. It lacks the total emotional pull it would have had if you really were attached to the characters, but it is still a tense moment when you have no choice but to put them down. The characters are more or less interchangeable though, so do not spend too much time choosing when you begin. The sound in FC2 goes a long with the graphics, it is just as good as can be expected. The ambient jungle sounds and atmosphere effects are all there and implemented correctly, and certainly add to the immersion experience. Combine this with the classic FC voiceovers, and there really is not much more to say. The deep bass, weapon sounds, and explosion audio are all done perfectly. The single player game is certainly a fantastic experience. Ubisoft Montréal has done a great job providing gamers with an immersive, fun, and long single player experience. Of course, the game does not end there. There is an entire multiplayer component as well. Of course, there's not much new you can do with multiplayer games these days, so the online component is not as novel as the single player. It comes with your standard death match, team death match, and capture the flag modes. You can collect diamonds to unlock more powerful weapons and upgrades, and the fire mechanic described above is implementable in multiplayer games. Leader boards, trophies, achievements, control settings galore, and aiming options, are all standardized and present. |
