Fight Night Round 3

Game modes is where you can play on Xbox Live, play the hard hits mode, and train. The training mode is where you can practice on the combo dummy, lift weights, punch the heavy bag, or spar. This in no way affects your character or game, so it is basically pointless. The hard hits mode is where you can basically play an arcade-ish style of the game, where the object is to knock the opponent on his ass as many times as possible.

The Xbox Live play is pretty straightforward. You can choose a ranked match, non-ranked match, and a custom match. You can play regular mode, ESPN classic mode, or hard hits mode online. There was no noticeable lag in the games I played online, although I have heard some complaints about the online play. When you log on to the EA servers you will be treated to a virtual agreement you have to “sign,” and the news for FNR3 online for that week. Online tournaments and competitions are surely planned. Overall it one of the better online experiences, and you can even use your custom player online.

The options mode is filled with the usual EA filler, the only real important option is the gameplay settings. Here you can do things like turn back on the HUD, toggle illegal blows, and set control options. The game provides players with 5 control settings, for those of us who like to use actual buttons for punches instead of the right analog stick there are choices for that as well. Generally anything you would like to change in the way the fights work, you can.

Fight Night Round 3 is certainly one of, if not the best looking Xbox360 game out there. This also makes it one of the best looking console games to date on any console. Although graphics do not make games if the gameplay is not there, this time around they certainly add an air of realism that makes the game that much better. Besides the graphics though, the presentation and lack of career mode filler does detract from the title. Not to mention the loading issues we told you about. The game is certainly not issue-free. Where it counts though, in the matches, it shines. With a huge Xbox360 month coming in March, and few titles to choose from at this point, we can certainly recommend FNR3. If you are thinking about getting the current-gen version to save a few bucks, don't. The graphical step up in the Xbox360 version is worth the few extra dollars.
