The technical aspect of the game is where the only issues lay. The loading can sometimes be a bit too long to be considered short. Not to mention that the loading screen seems to appear randomly, sometimes you will go through a door and there will be a loading screen, then you will go back out the same door and no loading. This can be a bit annoying. As you walk through the actual game world you will get loading message on the bottom of the screen as you explore. Unlike in towns, where there are doors to proceed though that Bethesda can use to load a new area, the wilderness has no such barriers. These loading messages appear about every minute or so, and the game will stutter from time to time when it is loading. This is not a big enough issue to make the game unplayable, but it is noticeable. Another technical issue with the game is the bugs. Of course, we cannot expect anyone to completely test all the eventualities in a game world this big, so we do not fault Bethesda at all, but the bugs are there nonetheless. Some quests cannot be complete at this time because they are bugged. Players will have to wait for a patch. There is even an unlimited gold bug that players can use to gain as much gold as they see fit. We are sure all these issues will be addressed with updates. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is an amazing experience. The game will keep you busy for at least 100 hours, yes I said 100. I think people need to take the scope and size of this amazing game when they start nitpicking, it is one heck of an accomplishment that it functions as well as it does. Oblivion is truly an offline RPG masterpiece and should be the standard by which all other single-player open-ended RPG games should be judged. |
