The sound in FCP is exactly the same as what you would be treated to the Xbox version of FCIE. FCIE is, in turn, more or less the same audio that is featured in the original Far Cry Instincts. Of course, this is not such a bad thing, and Stephen Dorf’s voice-over work for Jack Carver is priceless. The weapon sounds, on the other hand, could certainly have been improved, sometimes weapons that should sound like a garbage truck falling off the Empire State Building sound more like a pea-shooter. One of the more fun sound effects you will be privy to in FC is the horrendous screams the enemies make when you use your feral attack on them. Some of the enemies even scream after they are clearly dead. Oops. The ambient jungle sounds, as always, are dead-on and add to the overall experience greatly. The online modes in this game are where you will be spending most of your time. The game’s single player mode, while enjoyable, is a bit short, especially Evolution. With only 8-maps, Evo feels almost like a mini-game. That does not mean it isn’t fun of course – it is a blast. Worth playing for sure. Let’s get to the mode by mode. Instincts Story mode is where you will begin your single player adventure. This is the original storyline from FCI, and the mode you will have to complete to progress to the new Evolution content (without cheating, of course). Evolution Story is the mode that features the new content, little of it as there is. You can only select this mode, as I have said, once you have completed the Instincts storyline again. Once you select this mode though, you will instantly have access to your feral powers, as well as a real nice view when you start the story. You’ll see what I mean (hint: her name is Kade). |
