Sony Exec Says They Want Both 360 & PS3 To Succeed In Japan > |

Sony's president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, stated in an interview with Eurogamer that he does want Microsoft's Xbox360 to succeed in Japan. He says it will help push the concepts of HD gaming to the mass gamer. He would like both the PS3 and Xbox360 to sell well, in fact, in order to convince Japanese gamers that a more sophisticated take on games is preferable over the Wii, he says. The Wii is currently beating both consoles in Japan, with the PS3 and Xbox360 trading higher spots in the sales list, but always lagging behind Nintendo."Quite honestly, the real number being sold - we haven't seen real acceptance of the platform here in the Japanese market. The Nintendo Wii is still by far the biggest platform in Japan,"

I agree. The HD console market isn't taking off over there at all. Handhelds own Japan.

Ruh Roh. But I thought that the PS3 was the only true next generation console? He is right though. Heck the HD console market isn't taking off anywhere. Not if you look at numbers from past generations by the PS1 and PS2.The Wii on the other hand...

I think the 360 and PS3 were just a little ahead of their time. In a way we can probably blame Microsoft for being so aggressive about launching as soon as possible. I'm sure if the 360 didn't come out for 2 more years, Sony would have held back the PS3 since they were still making lots of money from PS2 sales. HD TV adoption just wasn't large enough, plus the technology wasn't cheap enough for the 360 and PS3 to be mainstream. But this is changing (the sales numbers are reflecting that) as the consoles get cheaper and more people adopt HDTVs.

Yes, let's look for more things to blame on Microsoft.Jesus Chrust madgunde that's some sad shit right there. So it's Microsoft's fault that Sony spent billions of dollars on unproven tech? I didn't know the execs at Microsoft put guns to the heads of CEOs at sony to force them to build the ps3 as is. How about we put blame where it's due instead of pushing on to others. You Sony fanboys never cease to amaze me in all the wrong ways. It's Sony's fault that they lost $4 billion in 2 years, no one elses.
oops: Jesus Chrust = Jesus Christ
