Topspin 2

Labeled With  topspin xbox360 2k games indie built
Written by DM on Thursday, April 06 2006

Topspin was one of the most popular sports games on the original Xbox. This time around the team that made the game (or at least some of them) was working for 2K Sports. The game was delayed a few times in order to facilitate tweaks in the gameplay and graphics. Was it worth it? Let’s find out.

Topspin 2 is basically Topspin with more characters, courts, and features. There are 24 real tennis players featured, mean and women, and 19 real world courts. The game also has more play modes than the last game did. The game supports up to 4 players (4 players is doubles only). You can also mix the sexes in multiplayer play, although we do not recommend it.

The graphics in the game are probably the least improved feature from the last time around. They are certainly better than the Xbox graphics, but not by much. The animations and motion capturing is where the most progress has been made. Beyond that, there is not much improvement over TS1, your socks will not be knocked off, as it were.

The sound is as it always was, there is not much that you can do with a sports game that has not been done before in the audio department. The player’s grunts and sounds seem like they dead on to the player’s real life noises, so that is a nice touch. The stadium and ambient sounds change based on the location, and in settings like the tropical island court, you do get a real sense that you are there.
