Another racing title from Ubisoft for the Nintendo Wii’s launch is GT Pro Series racing. The game is your standard car racing title with the classic Wii steering game play. Unfortunately, the rest of the game is so poor that the driving mechanics of the Wiimote cannot save it. Let’s find out why. The game itself is cel-shaded, which seems to be a graphical style that is cropping up everywhere these days. The title originally debuted on the Gamecube over three years ago in Japan. Yes, I said three years ago. Even back then the title took the cel-shaded style route rather than trying to actually push the limits of the Gamecube’s graphical power. The game never made an appearance in the US, more than likely because Ubisoft realized that the game would never sell well enough to be worth it. Even when it was new, the game was weaker than most of its competitors. Why Ubisoft decided that a second rehashed older game would make the perfect complement to their other Wii racing title we are not sure, but we are assure you that the game is not worth a purchase. The game is exactly the same as the GCN version, with the same licensed cars, the same 10 tracks, and the exact same visuals. The game is identical except for the new control scheme provided by the Wiimote. This game, like Monster 4X4 World Circuit, comes packaged with a plastic steering wheel peripheral. The game is set up around racing tournaments, and as you work your way through each one, more cars are unlocked for your use. The game features over 80 licensed cars, and you can even tweak the vehicles with parts and visuals in order to make your racing experience all the more fulfilling. Unfortunately, you will find yourself not wanting to spend the time to modify your racer because you just do not care enough. Harsh, but true. |
