Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

The multiplayer mode has three options, Xbox Live play, system link play, and local play. There is also a multiplayer credits option. All the multiplayer modes have the same options and play limit. There can only be a max of 16 players in any multiplayer mode. Sure, 32 players would have been nice, but when you and 16 friends are battling against the forces of evil in co-op mode, it certainly gets pretty hectic. I shudder to think what 32 players would be like. All the modes mentioned below have individual respawn, timer, and weapon settings, as well as a slew of other choices the host can make. In terms of Xbox Live, I was able to host a full 16 player game on my measly cable modem with zero lag for anyone. This says quite a bit about the net code in GRAW.

The non-campaign modes are Team, Co-op and Solo Elimination, Territory, and Objective. Elimination is just kill as many as you can, territory is where players try to keep control of certain map areas, and objective is where players have to do their best to complete certain objective on the map. As I said, you can play these in team or solo mode, solo is every man for him or herself, of course. In the co-op elimination, territory, and objective modes, you will be able to have all the humans on one team, and you will be able to take on the computer. When the settings are put on their most difficult, the computer is hard, trust me.

The Campaign online mode is probably the most fun of all. This is where you and up to 16 friends can battle it out against the computer to complete the mission objectives for each of four maps. The maps are only the first four, there are many more missions planned that will be available via Xbox Live download. In fact, once you complete the online Campaign, the general even says “it looks like this is something much bigger than we thought.” In other words, we will have more for you to download later.

We have to take this opportunity to mention the final drawback of GRAW. When you are playing online in any multiplayer mode, there is no way to view the current scores for the round. In the old GR games you could view the kills, points, and caps, and use that to plan your strategy. Now, all you are able to see is the total number of kills or points a team has, and the time left in the round. This is something we hope Ubisoft addresses in a future patch.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter is probably the best all around Xbox360 game to date. Both the single and multiplayer components are a great next-gen experience. Unfortunately, the FPS drops, the fact that you cannot adjust the control scheme sensitivity or layout, and the fact that the multiplayer has some glitches, prevents the game from being a perfect 10, but it is not enough to make the game not worth being a part of every gamer’s Xbox360 library.
