I reviewed the import version of Motorstorm here on GR a few months back. The game was good but it was too expensive to import at the time. On top of that, the game only featured a single player mode, and that was it. Well, now Sony has added a multiplayer mode and tweaked a few things. I will go over the differences in the US release of the game. Anything in italics is lifted from the review of the Japanese game.Remember, you can always read the original review here. Believe it or not, it seems that Sony has actually tweaked the game’s graphics a bit. It almost seems like Sony cut the anti-aliasing level in half, which ended up taking care of any frame rate slow down that was present in the Japanese version. On top of that, some of the vehicle colors have been changed in order to appeal more to Western gamers. In terms of game play, from what I can tell, Sony changed a few things in this area as well. Firstly, the nitro boost does not give quite as much of a speed boost as it does in the Japanese version. This is likely because Japanese gamers play games are a much higher difficulty level than us here in North America. No folks, this is not an insult, it is just a fact of life. The US version of the game also allows you to choose different vehicles for certain races, vehicles that were not previously available The Event mode is still the main feature of the game, you still use this mode to unlock more vehicles and tracks which you then use to race and unlock even more tracks and vehicles. The vehicle selection screen still suffers from the same loading lag that the Japanese game’s suffered from unfortunately. In terms of loading, though, the game is pretty well-programmed. Besides the vehicle selection and an initial loading time at the beginning of any race, the game does not pause to load. This really ends up saving time. |
