25 Minute HOME PS3 Video >
2007/12/03 15:52:44: Posted by DM
Sony has released a long video from the HOME beta that is taking place right now over the PSN. As you can see, it is a virtual community, pur and simple. Sony, we are sure, is hoping to attract the Facebook/Myspace/Twinkz crowd to the PS3 with this project, although some gamers may take to it, anything it possible. Wonder what you have to do to get a penthouse with your own hot tub and tons of floozies hanging around?

So let me get this straight. Now, if I had a PS3, if I'd want to play a game, I insert the disc, let it load and then have my character move to a screen of some sort before I can play? Did anyone ever ponder over the possibility that people want easy and instant access to their stuff? Isn't that why people made batch files in DOS and shortcuts in every other OS? Somebody's thinking is backwards. Maybe it'll find a clientele, but I'm not sold on it.

Sony is hoping that they can use the PS3 as a trojan horse for establishing Home as a virtual community to compete with Myspace, Friendster, Facebook, etc... It's the same thing they did with Blu-Ray. They are trying to capitalize on the past success of the PS1 and PS2 in establishing the Playstation brand name. It's how Microsoft got Internet Explorer and Media Player established. By including it in the Windows package.

Although it's sneaky, it's actually quite brillaint. Sony want's to dip thier hands in as many pots as possible. Movies, music, electronics, videogames, computers, and internet presence.

This keeps getting delayed for the Playstation 3...and that is where the problem arises from a business point of view.

(1) Xbox 360 currently has Xbox Live...NOW...and it is the best online service available.

(2) When HOME "eventually" arrives for the PS3, Sony has already said that they will charge money for the service...so that will be seen as a disappointment.

(3) According to reports, Microsoft could actually offer a similar service for the Xbox 360, BEFORE the HOME service was released for the PS3...but like CellFish said, Microsoft isn't in any rush to do so, because videogaming is supposed to be "Simple" and "Fun."

HOME> Live IMO HOME will seem to offer a next generation exp to connect with your friends.. share media and play games ;-)

Whats up Sky. Missed you there bro. As usual your posts are "premature". Lets just hope thats the only thing you do prematurely :p I wouldn't say that Home is better than Live. Nobody is using the final version of home. So lets leave the comparisons out for now.

Even though Sony pisses me off, I can definetly see where they are going with this. I just want to see In game XMB before I buy another PS3. Oh and Sony can feel free to drop the price another $100.00 My wife wont let me buy the PS3 till its $300.00 Even though I finally got the 5 free Blu-Ray movies in the mail from the 60GB I used to own. Only took them 3 months to send the movies. Did I mention Sony pisses me off?

im sure sony pisses you off... but any ways.. i like sony because there taking there time with this and not rushing it which is always good in the end for the gamer.. there under alot of pressure.. but they keep cool

oh and pimp daddy i missed you too ;-)

LOL. You do know that Sony created all that pressure with all thier claims of the Ps3 being a Supercomputer and being futureproof, etc... To be honest the only reason I traded my PS3 in for a 360 was because PSN sucks as far as community features. Give me Xbox Live any day. It's so much easier to get into a game with a firend on Live. I am Waiting Beyond to see if Home and PSN can merge and provide PS3 owners the same integrated online gaming service that I have come to expect and love with my 360. Come on Sony drop the PS3 price like its hot. Drop it like its hot. Drop it like its hot.

As usual, PimpDaddy points out FACTS based on the PRESENT...while Sky tries to talk about SPECULATION based on the FUTURE--which is a loooooong ways away.

So who is the winner: PimpDaddy!

I think it's quite funny the way that Sky said "Sony was taking their time and not rushing it." In reality, Sony is trying to complete the project as quickly as possible; that is why it has been delayed several times. The FACT is that the Playstation 3 is so difficult to work with that even a rushed version cannot be given to consumers without the network crashing.

At the beginning of this generation, EVERYONE said that the Xbox 360 would have a BIG Online advantage over the Playstation 3...and EVERYONE was 100% correct.

correct pimpD, its a great thing that they are trying to do, but game cinsoiloes are bought for games, thats why things like the browser in consoles haven't really faired that well, plus, if they go on and have you subscribe for it, it would be a plus for them, lets wait and see how it turns.

at sky, how can anybody brag about something they dont have yet??? live is here, people have tried it, home isnt, all we see are some screens, get back to us when its done
