Halo 3

What can I say about a Halo 3 that has not already been said 500 times over. The game produced the single biggest entertainment launch to date, with over 170 million in sales inside the first 24 hours alone. That in and of itself is a bigger indication of the popularity and quality of the game than any review I could write. But, we will try anyway, although chances are you will not read anything here that you do not already know about the super popular third installment of the Halo series.

The biggest addition to this trilogy ender is the many online multiplayer tweaks that Bungie has added since the second installment, released three years ago. Xbox Live has come a long way since that fateful November day, which also was a record breaker for Microsoft and Bungie. It is hard to decide where to start, but we might as well begin with the storyline, and I will try to keep the spoilers to a minimum.

Those who remember the story of Halo 2 will remember Master Chief diving off the ship that held Cortana before it was taken over by the Covenant. This is where the story begins. Master Chief's military cronies surround him at the spot where he fell. Right as they are about to give him up for dead, of course he arises, and the story begins in earnest. As you may remember from Halo 2, the Covenant elites are no longer siding with the Covenant priesthood, they have seen through their lies. Now, the priesthood is guarded by the brute class, a much more formidable warrior type, but with a much smaller brain. It is your job, along with your new partner the Covenant Arbiter, to take down the Covenant once and for all. There is not much more I can tell you without seriously spoiling the story for you, although I am sure there are not many of you who do not know the story already. Oh, and by the way, the Covenant will not be the only enemy that you must deal with in order to save the day.

The graphics in Halo 3 are some of the best you will find on the Microsoft console. While some players claim that the low amount of anti-aliasing tends to show itself more in Halo than in other titles, if you actually have time to stop and inspect the edges of polygons, then you have seriously messed the spirit of the game. What really will catch your eye is the light sourcing that Bungie has programmed into the game. It is truly impressive at points, and sometimes you just have to stop and take note.
