Killzone PS3 To Have Downloadable Chapters? >
2006/11/27 12:07:33: Posted by DM
According to internal reports, Killzone on the Playstation 3 will not only have one of the biggest game budgets ever, 18 million, but it will also feature downloadable chapters. This is likely so that the game can be released earlier, helping to boost the Playstation 3's low software tally. Rumor mill for now.

so if it is to be released earlier for competition than should the game be cheaper because your not getting all the game? or is it actual extra content? i wonder the price of this item.
Written by Walkin on 2006/11/27

I do not like the idea of episodic content. I prefer to buying a whole game even if I never finish it.
Written by Nemesis IX on 2006/11/27

sounds like a E.A. trick.

Valve does the same thing with Half Life 2 and it's upcoming episodes. It works well. Instead of having a 2-3 year gap between sequels you get a new episode every 6 or 12 months.

I can't see how Killzone 2 would be an "incomplete" game this way... HL2 isn't, Killzone 2 won't be, either.
Written by Gaara's Bane on 2006/11/27

hmm does sound kinda of fishy... then again they could charge what ever they want for that game and people will pay . they figured that out already.
Written by nock on 2006/11/27

whats amazing is an 18 million dollar budget for a game series that consists of two sh*tty games.
Written by blah on 2006/11/27

Killzone 1 was pretty bad, but Killzone: Liberation was surprisingly pretty good. It lacked story, but the gameplay was definitely fun especially when you play with people online. Plus an 18 million dollar budget means that Sony is serious about making this game their flagship FPS, and it looks like they want to live up to the hype of that trailer because they know if this game turns out to be amazing then most of the PS3's negativity is going to go away. Half life 2 is also episodic so thats all good, but im worried that this content is actually "downloadable." Are they going to pull off a Rockstar scheme and release episodic content before the real game comes out? Or are they seriously going to make the game based only on episodic content? Those are questions that people should be wanting the answer to.

This is a game that Sony originally had plans to show at the 2006 E3, but when things went SOOOO badly for Sony on the first day of the E3, they decided NOT to show this game on the second day of E3! This game has disappointing in-game graphics and gameplay that is just the same-ole stuff...it's time to forget about this game Sony. It didn't sell well on the PSP, and it isn't a popular franchise.
Written by IVkm on 2006/11/27

Fact is almost nothing is known about Killzone 2, yet you seem so sure of your claims, UBT... Disappointing in-game graphics? How interesting, considering there isn't a single in-game screenshot out yet. Same old gameplay?... I don't even need to coment that, do I?

You should really limit your bs comments to stuff you actually know about...

Dear Sony, please release Killzone 2 at the same time as Halo 3 is released. I need a good laugh.

Also, please tell me that you are not using the Unreal engine since we all know that Gears of War looks nothing close to what the Killzone trailers portrays. Hehe.
Written by Fishcake21 on 2006/11/27

Yes, give us more cliffhanger games and call it game of the year
Written by Kenny K on 2006/11/27

Ic204, tell me one game that comes as close to the killzone rendered movie like GoW? the animation in killzone (like any other rendered movie) is what gives the movie it's biggest visual appeal.

also the editor should know that 18 million isnt the biggest budget for a game. shenmue on the DC was around 20 million to develop.

Did you see Tim Sweeney showing the Unreal Engine 3 demo running in real time from the ps3 hardware?
Written by B1ueadmiral on 2006/11/27

no I did not see Tim Sweeney showing the UE 3 demo where can I see it?

Killzone for the PS2 was not great, but it wasn't terrible either. The PSP game is fun. Sony haters need to STFU. IF it were to come out that Sony is only putting 5 mill into the game, then all of you Wiibabies and MS nuthuggers would be whining b/c they were putting enough cash behind it. I am curious.
Written by aatencio on 2006/11/27

Here is an idea... Want to "boost the Playstation 3's low software tally"? How about you sell systems so that there are actually people out there that own a PS3 to purchase the games? I know that is complicated, but Sony try to keep up with the ideas here....

vaevictus i dont know who your talking to but killzone on the ps2 sucked. playing MANY quality FPSers on the PC and xbox, killzone was a HUGE letdown. maybe if sony didnt keep shouting that it was the "halo killer" then maybe it wouldnt have bombed so bad to me.

the PSP game was great, i was impressed and hope that this is a good sign of things to come.

no one is saying anything about the game not getting enough $$, so quit being a sony zombie and putting words in the mouths of others before they even speak.

FishCake21: what was the point of showing off tim sweeney's UE3 demo? it was real time but controlled, i know you dont know the significance behind that but it doesnt speak very highly for the system. in reality, not sure about now, epic was having trouble getting the UE3 engine to work as good on the ps3 as it does on the 360. i can give you a link if you wish.

Read the posts. I am not a Sony zombie. Rose colored glasses not allowing you to see the ridiculous negative comments?

Most reviews for Killzone on the PS2 were in the mediocre range. Not terrible, not great. I played Halo and Halo 2 a bajillion times more than Killzone. Fact is, it sold very well, and had a C report card. It's not like a Naruto or Pokemon franchise.
Written by Fishcake21 on 2006/11/27

I guess they made the engine for "crackhead" code Dx9 :>
Written by Kenny K on 2006/11/28

vaevictus, i never said that it didnt get "C" reviews or sell well. i was speaking from personal experience, and hardly do i pay attention to most reviews as they are mearly opinions of others as well.

all i know is that the game lacked severly. enemies have a handful of sounds, AI was sub-par, gameplay was repetitive, and the game had its dull moments. other then the frame rate, the graphics were impressive for a ps2 title.

also i apologize about the zombie remark (you seemed to be taking killzone comments to heart) but if you really arent a slave to sony's products then you shouldnt have been effected by such a comment.
Written by VaeVictus on 2006/11/28

No, I'm affected by the rampant idiocy of some of the posters. So Sony is spending a lot of money trying to make a good game. What do we get? Instead of, wow, Sony is trying to do something right for a change. No, just trying to find some other negative comment to make. I call people out on their being unfair.

Your opinion of the game is just that...yours. I'll stick with what professional game reviewers tell me if I want one, but I generally depend on my on experiences.

I'll never be a person to say, "go buy Killzone for the PS2, it is the greatest." I'd be more apt to say,"Halo 1 and 2 are my favorite FPS' on any system and unless you are a huge fan of FPS', Killzone is a rental at best."

With that being said, I am very much looking forward to what they have to offer with this iteration.
Written by Kenny K on 2006/11/28

well i am in no way an idiot. the only part of reviews that i pay attention to are the facts (there are some in reviews). if a game has horrible has frame rates, textures, controls, AI, etc. this isnt an opinion they are facts.

i never said anything bad about the budget for killzone 2. i hope its true, its honestly the only way that they can get the game to come close to the CGI movie. (which BTW is nowhere near the movie's quality)

Spending lots of money to create sequels to average games doesn't seem like a smart thing to do...just look at all the trouble it has already caused for Sony. It is a much better idea to try and create new game franchises like Gears of War, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, and Mass Effect. The problem for Sony is that they have tried to create new games for the Playstation 3, and most of them--such as Genji and Untold Legends--have completely sucked--and every website and magazine agrees on that. Sony is in a bad spot right now, but I honestly don't think that spending a lot of money on an average game franchise is the way to go.
Written by Kenny K on 2006/11/30

UTP, genji and untol legends are not new IPs. also the high budget for killzone 2 is more likely for graphical reasons. sony wrote a huge check at E305 when they showed the killzone rendered movie, so they have a lot to pay up to.
Written by VaeVictus on 2006/12/01

UTP, please change your name to BTP, though I question the technology professor part as much as the unbiased part. Listen to your logic, throw money away on an average game. Killzone 1 was average, we haven't got a clue as to what Killzone on the PS3 will be.

Devil May Cry 1--terrific

Devil May Cry 2--average at best

Devil May Cry 3--terrific, hard as hell

See what happens sometimes BTP...I mean UTP?
Written by Kenny K on 2006/12/01

you cant really count DMC though, what happened with that series is not the norm. i loved the first hated the second but again loved the third. this doesnt usually happen in gaming franchises. once a game goes down the hole, it usually doesnt come back.

as for UTP, while he may be overly passionate at times against sony, he is usually pretty accurate with the info.
