Mercenaries 2 For Xbox360? Likely >
2006/12/22 9:42:24: Posted by DM
It seems that the Mercenaries 2 gamne which everyone is looking foward to on Playstation 3, may be multi-platform afterall. As you can see in the video developer's blogs over at the official website, there are Xbox360 dev units in the background, complete with control pads. It looks like the PS3 is losing yet another exclusive. Oh boy, rumor mill for now though.

if true great this will be a fun game.

This is the kind of shooting game that is in the same genre as Gears of War, Call of Duty 2 & 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Lost Planet, and all of the other awesome shooting games on the Xbox 360. With that in mind, the publishers of the game would really be making a poor decision to avoid releasing the game for the Xbox 360. They are doing the right thing by bringing the game out for the Xbox 360, because it will generate a lot of revenue and profit for them.

I had read a rumor before that said Sony pays companies like Ubisoft, Sega, Rockstar Games, and Konami to basically remain silent about releasing games for other systems. In other words, although companies know that they are definitely going to release games like Assassins Creed, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Virtua Fighter 5 for the Xbox 360, they were paid to only announce the PS3 version for a certain lenght of time. This seems to be something that may be valid, because there are SO MANY games that were previously announced only for the PS3 that are now being announced for the Xbox 360 with extra features.

Ive never heard about this before.

The last thing 360 needs is another shooter. Honestly, how many shooters do you guys need?

Response to Smarty Pantz:

The Xbox 360 is the king of shooter games, both first-person and third-person...shooting games are very welcomed to the Xbox 360. I know I will look at any high-quality shooter that is released for the Xbox 360. There is just something I LOVE about feeling a machine gun vibrate and rumble in my hand while I am shooting enemies and blowing them up in a shooting game!

smarty pantz: you do realize that you are saying this while sony's "killer app" for the ps3 is a "shooter" right?

Anyone that thought this game was actually exclusive must be stupid. Merc 1 was multi-platform, what makes Merc 2 special enough to be exclusive.

Plus, this is Pandemic. Of course they are gonna have dev kits of all kinds because they are a multi-platform developing company. Samething with Insomniac Games, they have 360 dev kits but Resistance: FOM still turned out exclusive. So we dont really know for sure if Merc 2 is going to be multi-plat, but i guarentee that this game will be announced for the 360 in the near future.

BTW, have you guys seen the new GTHD trailer? And the new gameplay videos at the official site? Good god that game looks damn good 8)

Response to blah:

I have seen the GTHD trailer, but it is the actual gameplay of GTHD that concerns me the most...and I believe I am not alone in that area. When Sony showed GTHD at the 2006 E3, everyone in the audience was 100% disappointed--The audience saw the game and was making noises that were just fully of disappointment, and their facial expressions said it all...

During the GTHD gameplay where the cars can see people, it is a big disappointment graphically. Rather than having people made out of true 3D polygons that move and cheer, like in Project Gotham Racing 3 on the Xbox 360, GTHD on the PS3 had little 2D cutouts that stood completely still. The audience at the 2006 E3 was literally saying "booo" when that game was shown. GTHD is one of the reasons why Sony got ripped on so much at the 2006 E3 that they decided to never again attend an E3 show, which is why the E3 show ended up being cancelled.

Obviously you havent seen the latest gameplay trailer Unbiased xP Im not gonna spoil it for you, just watch the NEW gameplay trailers at polyphony's official site...not the E3 videos, not the TGS videos, and not the Gamers Day videos. Im talking about the PS3 demo GTHD that is out right now, and its looks amazing. The 2D crowds are now fully 3D, the enviorments are clean, lighting has been added and looks great, cars are a lot more detailed, and its all running at a solid frame rate in 1080p. Yes, the game looked disappointing at E3 and TGS, but trust me...they've improved a lot. Go to IGN PS3 right now for the impressions that they just put up, they are also very satisfied with it.

Keep in mind that this is now a demo of GT5, its not that GTHD premium and GTHD regular thing anymore. This is a demo of a game that is going to come out 1-2 years from now, and it already looks this good. I cant wait 8)

Unbiased Technology Professor is put to a negative desperate campaign by negative information on old GTHD. Play GTHD in the shop.

Response to blah:

Thank you for taking the time to show those links to me. I did notice some of the improvements that you were talking about, but I do have to say that I fully agree with the IGN editor that said there is still a lot of room for graphic improvment.

For example, although the people in the crowds previously seemed like low-res 2D cutouts that never moved, now they seem like they are made up of a one-dimensional texture-mapped polygon with a higher resolution. As IGN pointed out, the bad thing is that many of those people still do not move, and on certain angles they look nearly identical to the 2D sprite look, except they don't pixelate because they are now made of higher resolution polygons.

IGN also pointed out that the people move in such a "pre-defined pattern" that you literally recognized it in a high-speed racing game. That is obviously not a good thing about Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo is a little bit like Ridge Racer: it had its day in the sun, but now its time has passed.

We really should not be talking about Gran Turismo 5 anyways, because like you said, it is about TWO YEARS away from being completed, due to the programming difficulties of the Playstation 3.
