The online mode is more or less just a way for players to compete via Xbox Live. There is no league play online, certainly something that should show up in next year’s incarnation. When playing against someone online you will have to be satisfied with ranked play, as that is more or less the only option available. You would think that Konami could at least have included the great goal replay save feature that is included in the PS2 and PSP versions of the game. It would have been nice to have a place to congregate with other football heads and show off some of those amazing goals that only the Winning Eleven game play can produce. The thing about Winning Eleven is, despite all of these mediocre features, the game play is, bar none, the best damn virtual football game play you will ever experience. The way that the players on the field react to the action is just one of the main game play items that will stand out. Players that are not even near the ball will make little motions like stretching their calves or taking a few quick “jog” steps like players do in real life. When you are in the thick of the action, beating the same defender twice will produce entirely different reactions. It is the little touches that really make Winning Eleven the game to beat. This is the Winning Eleven franchise’s inaugural next-gen outing. Like some of EA’s initial outings on the Xbox360 when the console launched, the game is lacking in the extras and fillers department. Hopefully, Konami is not going to be content to rest on their laurels, and this game is simply a test to probe the Xbox360 and Xbox Live and find out just what needs to be fixed and what needs to be added for next year’s version. As the game stands, the legendary game play is intact, and Xbox Live play is viable and great fun. If you are looking for a next-gen soccer game and you are not one for the pomp and circumstance of EA’s FIFA, then this game is for you. I assure you, once you get into the game play you will forget all about the absence of pop music and in-game ads. Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 is the football fan’s choice. |
