ATI's Triple Video Card Physics Solution >
2006/06/11 12:24:57: Posted by DM
ATI has posted information on their website regarding their new Havoc-based physics solution for PCs. Basically, ATI is pushing a three video card setup. Yes, we said three. Two of the cards will be used to render the graphics, and one will be used to render the physics. Check the link for details.

Definitely glad I got a 360 instead of trying to upgrade my PC.

I was just going to say the same thing.

What is the best card out right now ??

@gw

at the moment ATI's x1900XTX is the best card availible.

nVidia's Geforce 7950GX2 is the best available by far.

^^ definatly. could you put 2 of those in sli mode? that would be 4 7900's.

This solution is far superior to agiea's.

Have you guys seen the cellfactor demo the posterboy for physX running flawlessly on high end cpus???? That has got to be a major blow for agiea. There was a way to get around using a PhysX ppu to play the game and it ran fine. They immediately pulled the demo probably to fix the problem. This method is far superior you can use old gpus to run physx on.

No the Ati x1900xtx is the best available. The 7950GX2 is a dual gpu that the x1900xtx gets the same performance as at insanely high resolutions such as 2560x1600 and is at most 9 fps behind at other resolutions. I say considering what you actually get in terms of performance the best SINGLE card is the x1900xtx.

The number of pixel shader units on that dual gpu 7950GX2 is 48 the x1900xtx has that many by itself. Just go to toms hardware and check out the fear benchmarks the most graphics intensive game on the pc currently. Can anyone look at the benchmarks then look at price.. then justify the 7950?

The 7950GX2 consumes less power under load, takes up the same amount of room (slots wide), and takes one PCI-e slot. I say they did a pretty good job in sticking two GPUs onto a SINGLE card. Also, the 7950GX2 is retailing for the same amount as when the X1900XTX came out but is currently about $100 more.

As far as benchmarks go, Tech Report, AnandTech and GameSpot all show that the 7950GX2 scores considerably higher than the X1900XTX and competes nicely with dual card configurations. Even FEAR (since you mentioned that game) performs considerably better with the 7950GX2. I don't know why Tom's Hardware got their numbers, but looking at how a lot of the test scores even out, it's a good indication that the cards were hitting a bottleneck.

The fact is, the 7950GX2 is a fast piece of hardware. And even though it's got two GPUs, it's still a single card. So, I say once again: nVidia's Geforce 7950GX2 is the best available by far.

anyone remenber the old 3d acelarator cards?

in 1995 was nessecary brought one to make a pre-existing 3d render card. there was 2 card one to render and other to acelarate the graphics.(altrought some 3d cars was onbord solutions that used the cpu to acelarate but he solotion was poor preformance)

it the time card from 3dfx , voodoo models etc..started to intregrate the to componets in one solution that we know today a single card that do all the graphs work , render and acelarate(basicaly , add what more u want)..........

with this,, IT make me feel that the future passes to intregrate a specialized physix core in a graphics card....put all in one simple solution and let a cpu free of PHYSICX based proccess.

Of course that in the begining would cost big bucks like all new technology..but it time would in over the separate components and their price.

it was a confusion those time some card just render in gourad graphisc...it was some solutions to play 3d games.

1- let the cpu do the maths, poor

2- 3d acelarator...fast as psx and sega saturn.
