Another Halo-killer wannabe.

I am actually very excited about this game b/c Insomniac puts out some very high quality games. It should prove to be one of the more promising games early on for PS3.

I don't think they've called this one a halo killer which is a good thing you remember what happened when the killzone guys started calling their game a halo killer. I don't think Insomniac has outright called this a halo killer, but they certainly suggested it once :D

The main reason why people call every new fps a halo killer is if it has good graphics (its a halo killer), but better graphics isn't all it takes to beat Halo.. You need a stronger story, better ai, stronger gameplay for them to top halo and I honestly don't know of any game that might manage to come close as of right now that has been announced.

Gears of War isn't an fps, but it promises a strong story so lets see how that turns out. From what I've seen so far the gameplay seems to have a nice realistic flow.

Heavenly Sword is DEFINETLY going to be the ps3's best game for some time to come if they deliver on the outdoor environments.

Insomniac has always delivered games with good graphics, tight gameplay and good fun storylines. The Ratchet series was one of my favs on the ps2. It was amazing how much quality gameplay they were able to deliver with their short development schedules (they realeased a new Ratchet yearly). So I only expect good things from this game given their track record...and te fact they say it is their biggest game ever is impresive considereing how big the Ratchet games were.

Also the fact that they were one of the few developers that actually showed real gaemplay footage at E3 05 speaks great for them. It means they can be trusted and you get the feeling they are real gamers who love what they are doing. I remember when Ted Price was asked if the games at E3 05 were all in real-time and he replied that all he could say with certainty was that THEIR game was in real-time. That was nice and honest.

The graphics look incredible, very detailed .. esp. the environment. Its better looking than CoD for 360 so far. Some of the character models are kooky tho (like the humanoids with the pylons sticking out their backs).

What's a Halo?

A ring of Hype

Optavius, Guerilla never called their game a Halo killer, it was some Official Playstation 2 Magazine which had an exclusive hands-on from it. You can't find a single line in any interview that has Killzone's devs saying their game is a Halo killer. It was just fanboys and the press hyping it. Although, Killzone is better than Halo in some areas like graphical style, story etc.

The overall quality suffered (badly) from certain bugs (AI could be good, but too often it didn't work as it was supposed to, graphical glitches). Still, Killzone isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. If you thought Halo is the best game in the universe (hardly), I doubt any FPS could surpass that in your mind, certainly not Killzone. Nevertheless, if Killzone for PS3 is what Killzone could've been and then upgraded to next-gen, it could really be a great FPS. Unless the game will be a total failure and the "best proof" of "PS3 didn't deliver what they promised"

Killzone better than halo in STORY? I'll give you graphical style, but most definetly not story.

Sony isn't dumb there is a reason they didn't show killzone they are going to throw the most money behind that game than anything else. Its their "welcome to the real next gen" gen. Its the game that generated by far the most buzz for the ps3. As well as they'll be able to program that game.. as good as the graphics will be it will most definetly not match the E3 2005 video. There is huge chance it'll be better than Gears of War though (I'm speaking in terms of technical impressiveness.) The unreal engine is built for you know what type of games in my eyes as good as a game looks (unless I see otherwise) I'll be hard pressed to believe a proper ground up engine would be outdone by the unreal 3 engine because unlike the unreal 3 engine those other engines will be geared towards a certain type of game.

Sure you can adjust the unreal 3 engine to the type of game you want to make, but the fact still remains that wasn't its original intention. There was a reason Silikon Knights had to heavily modify the engine. There is a reason Sakaguchi and Feel Plus had to create new development utilities for Lost Odyssey since it uses the Unreal 3 engine (it wasn't as geared towards interactivity and other things as they'd like it to be so they fixed it all)
