Seems like some developers are sincere after all. Blu-ray is necessary and PS3 is more powerfull...why im not surprised...
Written by RastaDator (104) on 2006/07/18

Yep hoe but this people is not trying to get the most from any of both consoles, he even said that multiplat devel now is easer than before because PS3 and x360 are similar and if you want to exploit PS3 power, much more complex programing it is needed, that only can means they are barely scratching PS3 capabilities.

Blu Ray necessary and ps3 more powerful? If only you knew what the hell you were talking about...

Does it even matter if a 360 game goes multiple discs? No it doesn't 2 dvd disc is still a lot cheaper than a single blu ray disc when its all said and done. In regards to that ps3 more powerful nonsense.. do you have any idea what can become possible with 48 shader units dedicated to vertex shading (which only the 360 is capable)?

Lets just say it'll be able to do truly mindblowing things that the ps3 could never dream of doing simply because the ps3 at best can dedicate only 8 vertex shader units at any time to a task.

The only way disc space will ever be an issue for the 360 is if they use a good amount of hi-def video footage in their games. What is the worst case scenario for the 360? Multiple discs? Since when did that make a game inferior by any stroke of the imagination? I'd go for the superior version of a game anyday regardless of how many discs are being used.

You all can talk about hardware all you want. What really matters is who is gonna take advantage of the hardware on the 360 and PS3. Plus no one really knows about the RSX anymore, its been underwraps since E3 2005..it could have been enhanced. If you have seen the early footage of Call of Duty 3 gameplay, it looks good. And Treyarch says there will be no difference between the two systems. If PS3 can achieve that level of graphics then im happy. To me, graphics isn't a big deal..gameplay is more important. I already know PS3 will have better graphics than all the current generation games and graphics will be on par with the 360. You all need to worry more on how fun the game will be and not how pretty it will be.

The DVD was expensive when it first came out and now look how much it is. Blu-ray will get cheaper over time, you gotta give these next-gen formats a chance. I like how Sony is making its console future proof, its better than buying addons to make my console stay on par with the future.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/07/18

Future proofing your console? How exactly are they future prooting it? The cell will be great, the rsx is dated gpu technology only 256MB worth of textures can be used in games... and paying attention to beta-max and umd BOTH formats released by sony both died and blu ray with its ridiculously high price and terrible early reviews from many people out there.

Don't believe me just check out the avs forum which is one of if not the most popular place for movie, dvd fanatics. Blu Ray thus far has been getting absolutely trounced by HD-DVD in video quality. Future proofing the damn ps3 would be giving us a god damn gpu that wasn't already in circulation on the pc for like a year will be 1 year and about 5 months when the ps3 eventually releases.

Betamax dead... UMD dead... I'm suppose to trust ANOTHER sony format after the first 2 failed miserably? Blu Rays price is absolutely ridiculous considering its inferior performance compared to HD-DVD.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/07/18

Anyone wonder why UMD never caught on? What is the point when we have DVD? Thats exactly how people will be looking at blu ray this time around. The biggest problem though is there exists a similar Hi-Def dvd offering at $500 cheaper, uses a vastly superior video codec on its movies which ultimately helps guarantee superior image quality and the current HD-DVD discs hold 5 gigs more than Blu Ray discs out now. Bad reviews, plus proven inferior performance to HD-DVD thus far means serious trouble.

Toshiba's HD-DVD player is really selling like crazy people can't keep the movies on the shelves whereas blu ray isn't doing too well at all. The ONLY saving grace for blu ray (and sony knows this is its in the ps3 which is guaranteed to sell), but that alone wont be enough to guarantee the success of the format. Just take a look at the heavily anticipated psp and how things went with that. One would think that the psp would like to think the psp would guarantee umd's success.

A national online survey was conducted and the results were.

a. 57% would definitely or probably buy an HD DVD player vs. 8% for Blu-Ray.

b. 25% would definitely buy HD DVD vs. 2% for Blu-Ray.

2. Purchase interest in HD DVD remains three times higher than Blu-Ray -- even without HD DVD studio support from Disney and Fox.

a. 56% of respondents would definitely or probably buy an HD DVD player vs. 18% for Blu-Ray.

b. 20% would definitely buy HD DVD vs. 6% for Blu-Ray.

3. The main reason consumers prefer HD DVD over Blu-Ray is its superior value.

a. In response to the question, “Which statement best describes how you feel about the value of an HD DVD player,” nearly 57% of respondents indicated that HD DVD was a “very good” or “fairly good” value vs. 14% for Blu-Ray.

b. Conversely, 68% indicated that Blu-Ray was a “somewhat poor” or “very poor” value vs. 19% for HD DVD.

4. In the 4th quarter 2006, the quantity of titles in the HD DVD format is assumed to be two times more than Blu-Ray (200+ for HD DVD vs. approximately 100 for Blu-Ray).

The tests were conducted based on a 2 different scenarios each of which HD-DVD came out on top.

1) All major Hollywood studios equally supporting both formats; and 2) Major studio support split between the two formats (i.e. today’s situation). In each of these scenarios, respondents were properly educated as if they would be making a purchase decision (e.g. title key art, pricing, quantities, player compatibility).

Yawn....

Written by optaviusx on 2006/07/18

HD-DVD has a major advantage as it has managed to convince many (even average joe consumers) it is superior to Blu Ray and that just doesn't go away in the world of electronics. It started with Ipod being accepted as the superior device for a music player and it just took off.

You go out on a limb to be a extra special but everything still hangs in the balance and its not over yet...

Its goes both ways...

If the psp had had the video out that was promised when it was first announced, if the price for the discs had been way lower, and if movie studios cared less about making money and had started to bundle dvd with umds...that format would've been succesful. I own a psp and I never found reasonable to by a umd movie...at first I thought they would be awesome since the system was supposed to have a tv-out...that would've made it thebest portable movie player ever but they ditched that feature so the format was doomed. The main reason it tanked is because you can only watch the movies in the psp..Blu-Ray is completely different from UMD...you don't need a ps3 to watch the movies, you can watch them in your living room, and it has support from almost every major hollywood studio (HD_DVD is severlky lacking in the support area and this will definetly hurt them)

Anyway the post was about the interview to starbreeze studios...I think that if I want to get an idea of how poerful is the ps3 I'll listen to actual developers who are developing games for both systems and not listen to obvious fanboys like optaviousx who seems to be J. Allard's son...I think Starbreeze actually knows "what the hell they are talking about"
