Sony Says 'PSN May Not Always Be Free' >
2007/06/18 11:30:09: Posted by DM
Sometimes it is hard to find a reason behind the things that Sony says to the press. This is one of those times. Geoff Keighley, speaking to GameTrailers in the latest installment of their "Bonus Round" feature, stated that besides price, Xbox Live did not offer much more or less than PSN. Then, Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network operations (who was also present), felt the need to add that Sony's PSN may not always be free. The first Sony exec basically says that PSN's only real difference over Xbox Live is price, which to be honest, is half-true at best. Then the second Sony exec totally negates that statement. We are stumped here, folks. We will let you all argue this one out, for we have said all we wish to.

I always told everyone that Sony would find a way to charge for it's online service...LOL. Maybe it will be another level of service like silver and gold for XBL. Something tells me that HOME is gonna cost money to unlock all of it's features and it's full potential though.

when he means charge.. i bet hes talking about content... i watch the interview... i highly doubt they will charge for the actual service

and of course home will cost some money... they will charge for some things... like your apartment, clothes and such

I wish Sony would follow the MS formula, great online service for a mininal monthly fee is better than a substandard support for free.

hahaha...

i can see it now. we gotta pay monthly rent and buy our own clothes, now we gotta pay monthly rent and for clothes on HOME...

Nothing new here. When Home was first demoed, they talked about chargeable content.

I hope thats all they charge for...I was prepared for that but, hopefully like you said...They don't charge for actual service. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Sony started to charge for actual service though. We are talking about Sony...LOL.

i saw the great interview and DM points out one thing and stretches it.. they said they may charge for conten in Home and such. That was already discussed and to be expected. How about talking about all the great things discussed in the interview. Like perhaps that they are making an achievement system-like feature or that we will be able to access the ps store and cross media bar while playing games in the future..

All the great things that PS3 has in store are currently being enjoyed by everyone with a 360.

read the next-gen article, sony already charges for content, downloadble games etc, read the first 2 paragraphs over at next-gen, you will see they clearly state "charge for PSN," not content
Written by neoimpulse on 2007/06/18

ULTRA slow download speeds

limited content

no universal username

no ingame messsaging

no friends list status (showing the game they are playing)

Basically the current PSN is just a method for users to pay for mediocre downloadable games, demoes, game trailers and movie trailers.

well download demoes, game trailers and movie trailers, not pay...

i agree with you limey... 50 dollars a year is close to nothing. anyone who complains about it should stick to the low quality state that is the PSN.

Written by arthur56k on 2007/06/19

was bound to happen, it takes money to keep[ the service up, plus all those updates and home cost money, give people premioum service but at a cost, there is nothing wrong there
