XBox Will 'Own' GTA Launch Says MS >
2008/02/08 9:29:57: Posted by DM
According to Microsoft's Shane Kim, MS will make sure that the Xbox360 benefits the most from the GTA IV launch. From a game content standpoint, apparently, the Xbox360 edition "already owns it [the Playstation 3 version]." Them's is fightin' words!

WithoutPrejudiceGamer: And I am expecting the 360 to keep beating the PS3 in sales in the US. Of course he gonna say that. He is PR for Microsoft, whats he supposed to say. Hey all you Playstation Polesmokers go get the PS3 version instead of ours???

FACTS:

(1) Grand Theft Auto 4 on the Xbox 360 has TWO "Exclusive" episodes that will be available ONLY to Xbox 360 owners.

(2) Microsoft paid $50 million dollars for the exclusive episodes in Grand Theft Auto 4.

(3) Each of the two Xbox 360 exclusive episodes adds approximately 10 hours of gameplay to Grand Theft Auto 4.

(4) The Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 was ready to be released before Christmas; that is why we saw so many excellent demos on the Xbox 360, but none on the Playstation 3.

(5) Due to the very common Playstation 3 "development problems" the game was delayed for both systems due to a rule in the contract that says no version of the game can be released prior to the Playstation 3 release. That is why Microsoft originally announced that the Xbox 360 version would be released "on the same day as the Playstation 3 version."

(6) Based on these statements from Shane Kim, it appears that Microsoft is REALLY going to drive home the FACT that the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 is the best version available. This will have a significant impact in North America, but even moreso in Europe--where Grand Theft Auto is especially popular.

If Microsoft lowered the price of the Xbox 360 across Europe at the same time that Grand Theft Auto 4 becomes available, and marketed them together in the correct ways, it would really have an excellent chance for a HUGE marketing and sales victory for the Xbox 360 in Europe.

MS has already lost Europe this gen. It was over before it even started.

really, where do you get your figures from? the only one who does a great survey there is chart track, and you have to pay 5000 quid to veiw the results, apart from that there is a non closure clause, and the survey only covers the UK. let me guess, you use VGchartz

arthur56k is 100% correct.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 STILL has a commanding lead over the Playstation 3 in CUMULATIVE total sales in Europe, since both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have launched.

*

No game will be more popular than Grand Theft Auto 4 in the European market, and the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 is the BEST version that will be released.

It will be very interesting to see what influence Grand Theft Auto 4 will have on the European hardware sales figures for 2008, especially since it appears Microsoft is going to market that FACT...BIGTIME!

*

And arthur56k is also 100% correct that VGchartz is well-known for having unreliable information.

For example, the PS3 sales figures jumped by MILLIONS of systems in just one non-launch day, all because Sony changed their definition of what a "Sale" was, in order to make the disappointing sales performance of the Playstation 3 seem less disappointing.

VGchartz lists Sony's sales figures according to Sony's definition of a "Sale," which is "Being sold from the production warehouse to the retailer." The problem is, there are MILLIONS of Playstation 3 systems that are sitting on store shelves "collecting dust," since they have not been sold to consumers.

Nintendo and Microsoft list sales figures as being sold from Retailers to Consumers.

And for those of you who try to say "They do not," because the announcements they sometimes make use the word "shipped," it does NOT matter what you say, because the Wii and Xbox 360 were COMPLETELY SOLD OUT over the past holiday season, which automatically means that anything shipped from the warehouse to the retailer was also sold to consumers of the Wii and Xbox 360.
