Leipzig GC 'Best Of' Winners, Mirror's Edge 360? >
2008/08/22 9:17:14: Posted by DM
The "best of" winners for the Leipzig Games Convention have been officially announced. For PC, top honors went to Spore, for Xbox360 it was Mirror's Edge (this is a timed PS3 exclusive, as far as we know, why they chose it on 360 is interesting), PSP was Resistance Retribution, The PS3, of course, was Little Big Planet, Skate It took honors for the Wii, Sonic Chronicles was the DS choice, and PES 2009 was the mobile favorite. Click read more for the full info.

For the sixth time, the Leipziger Messe has awarded the title of "Best of GC" to the most innovative new products at the GC - Games Convention. This year's winners in nine categories were announced yesterday evening. A total of 29 exhibitors at the GC - Games Convention had submitted 122 hardware items and software titles (2006: 85) for the award.

The happy winners were:

In the category Best PC Game:

SPORE - Electronic Arts

In "Spore", Will Wright lets players create their own species and send them off on a journey through five billion years of evolutionary history. In the process, he succeeds in combining elements from casual, strategy, role-play and action simulations into a single game - and opens the door to a games galaxy in which all living elements are designed by the players themselves. "Spore" is at the same time both complex and comprehensible and will have an inspirational effect on video game development for many years to come.

In the category Best Xbox 360 Game:

MIRROR'S EDGE - Electronic Arts

"Mirror's Edge" sends its title heroine "Faith" off into a modern police state full of contrasting colours and vertiginous architecture. The special achievement of the action adventure is to cloak the player particularly closely in the skin of his or her avatar. Acrobatic leaps, fierce close combat and the character's increasing exhaustion are almost physically perceptible.

In the category Best PSP Game:

Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland

This makes it official at last: shooters for out and about can be fun. With outstanding visuals, in "Resistance: Retribution" neither the small console nor the gamer can take a breather till Europe has been liberated from an extraterrestrial fleet of invaders. It also includes a multiplayer setting for up to eight players.

In the category Best PS3 Game:

Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland

Sony brings new life to an old genre, the laterally scrolling platformer. It also adds both a social and a creative element to the console world: the gamer community becomes the developer community. "Little Big Planet" comes with a convincingly vivid backdrop and almost unlimited possibilities with entertaining level structure.

In the category Best Wii Game:

SKATE IT - Electronic Arts

The Wii Fit Balance Board can do much more than just aerobics and yoga: by shifting weight and skilful use of the Nunchuk, the player carries out the most amazing tricks in (four) virtual roles. A genuine skater feel is created on the run through half-pipes and over ramps. "Skate it" gives an authentic and original recreation of the trend sport and benefits from the special features of the Nintendo console.

In the category Best NDS Game:

SONIC CHRONICLES: Die Dunkle Bruderschaft - SEGA

What looks at first like a colourful jump'n'run, turns out after only a few minutes to be an atmospheric RPG. Thanks to the exciting story, the amusing dialogue and the tactical fight system, older Sonic fans will also find this very entertaining. BioWare has given the DS an epic adventure all about the blue hedgehog.

In the category BEST MOBILE Game:

PES 2009 - Konami

Smoothly animated mini-players, a passing game and runs into the centre - it's all possible, even on a small mobile phone screen. Depending on the type of phone and with a certain amount of practice, the one-button control makes even complex game moves possible. "PES 2009" for mobile phones even allows for multiplayer games by Bluetooth and is much more than just a stopgap to pass the time.

In the category Best Online Game:

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - GOA GOA (developed by Mythic Entertainment)

The creators of the online RPG legend "Dark Age of Camelot", still so successful today, are back with "Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning". GOA squares up to the alpha male "World of Warcraft" with spectacular visuals, innovative play modi, neat control and an enormous, appealing fantasy world.

In the category Best Hardware:

PlayTV - Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland

The PlayTV enables users to record, play back and pause for playback of TV programmes received in DVB-T format. This is the first time that a game console serves as a hard drive recorder. The remote function is particularly impressive, making it possible to watch recorded TV shows or live TV programmes on the Playstation Portable (PSP).

In the category Best PS2 Game:

As there were too few entrants, no award was made in this category.

With the "Best of GC" title, the GC - Games Convention awards the computer and video game industry's most outstanding product achievements every year. Exhibitors at the GC - Games Convention had until 1 August 2008 to make submissions in the category hardware accessories as well as in the categories Best Game PC, Xbox 360, PSP, PS2, PS3, Wii, NDS, mobile and online. All companies exhibiting at the GC were eligible, if their products could be played in the public area and had not been published before the fair.

Mirror's Edge isn't a ps3 exclusive at all. It's 2009's overall GoTY for all consoles ^^
Written by neoimpulse on 2008/08/22

lol warhammer is going to flop so bad

rush the game to meet an early release date cutting several classes and cities from the game
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/08/22

Mirror's Edge is the best 360 game at the show, not the best PS3 game at the show. This is why it is game of show on 360, but not PS3...in their opinion.

It isn't a PS3 exclusive, the PS3 is just the lead platform.
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2008/08/22

Here is the data I have gathered so far:

(1) Mirror's Edge will appear on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

(2) PS3 is the "Lead Development Platform."

(3) David Reeves of Sony Computer Entertainment in Europe said in an interview that the PS3 version of Mirror's Edge would be released first.

(4) After Reeves said this, the Developers of the game were asked if it was true. The developers said that as far as they were concerned Mirror's Edge would re released SIMULTANEOUSLY on all three platforms. However, the developers did point out that there may be some "high level" negotiations that have taken place that they are not aware of. You can read about this here: hxxp://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=[link removed]

(5) Mirror's Edge uses the Unreal graphics engine. This alone means the Xbox 360 version of Mirror's Edge has an EXCELLENT chance of being better than the Playstation 3 version, even if the PS3 version is the "lead development" platform. The bottom line is that the Unreal Graphics Engine works amazingly well on the Xbox 360--much better than it has on the Playstation 3.

(6) Microsoft didn't support the Leipzig convention. Considering that Mirror's Edge did not have to compete with games like Gears of War 2 means it was quite a bit easier for Mirror's Edge to gain attention.

(7) Mirror's Edge looks like a decent game, but it won't be anything too special. The girl in Mirror's Edge definitely isn't in the same league as Laura Croft or Joanna Dark.
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

I fail to see how Mirror's Edge won't be anything too special. It's one of the most original takes on the first person genre in years.

If this was developed natively for the 360 first, I'm sure it would be more than a decent game.

Such fear and insecurities, it's almost as if you're justifying why Mirror's Edge won as the 360's best game of the show. It's a damn good game and should win game of the show for more platforms IMO.

Quit being a tool

Great games can and will be developed for both platforms, it really doesn't matter anymore which platform is the lead platform since they are so close in performance.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/22

Because Xbox 360 has no good games ! so they picked Mirror Edge, and for PS3 they have too many good games and to me Mirror Egde looks crap as I see more of it ...

and to me I find Mirror Edge to be better on PS3 than XBox 360...

Finally Lead Platform is starting to be on PS3
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/22

blacktiger: Could you please remove Sony's Pole from your a$$??? Your right 360 has no good games *sarcasm*

So exactly how did you come to the conclusion that the PS3 version of Mirrors Edge would be better than the 360? Is it because you only own a PS3 or because you only own a PS3?

Yes we will see more games use the PS3 as the lead platform. Because the 360 can handle PS3 ports alot easier than the other way around. It only makes sense for developers that wan't to go multiplatform to do it this way.
Written by The Ow In Wow8 on 2008/08/22

blacktiger: Shut the fuck up you sony tool. Mirror's edge looks very good and it will sell good for both system's, but to say the 360 has no good games coming out is like saying you can spell and read correctly. Come on! the 360 has great games coming out even 3rd party games. Fable, Gears 2, The Force Unleashed, Legendary, FallOut 3, Left 4 Dead, Banjo-Kazooie, Dead Space, Tom Clancy's EndWar, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, Far Cry 2, do you want me to keep going? cause i can. I think its funny that you can say "Finally Lead Platform is starting to be on PS3" cause 'Best In Show' for the 360 was a(supposed to be)PS3 game.

360 Win PS3 Lose

Blacktiger = Idiot
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

Blacktiger, you don't know anything so please don't say anything. I so fucking hate you idiot fantards.

There have been quite a few games using the ps3 as the lead platform, what difference does it all matter? Like Pimp said, it's easier to develop natively on the ps3 first and port to the 360 than the other way around. Easier = less development time needed, thus less money spent.

WHY THE FUCK DO THESE UNEDUCATED FANBOY COMMENTS HAVE TO INFECT EVERY FUCKING ARTICLE?? Seriously, what the FUCK do you idiots gain from jerking off on your favorite console?

I'll quote this blacktiger, when the game is released and it's the same on both systems.

I only wish DM would grow a brain and realize how much a site like this can grow if they got rid of these trolling idiots. The lurkers do not wish to join a site as infected as this one. No one with any comprehension would want to join a site where a simple conversation is impossible.

In fact, I'm thinking I may just be done with this site again. So much for trying, thanks blacktiger, sky, and krogan for reminding how stupid people can be when there are no consequences. You should all compete in the special olympics if you want to fight with each other or act like retards.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/22

wow nice response ladies :p

but come on, if u think the game isn't big, then why do u think it won on xbox 360, it's obviously there is no good games...

after ten years of development ?

hahahah !

I really didn't like the outcome of the game, i mean it looks boring and repetitive,

Oh by the way, after gametrailer gave 6.5 I thought they review always sucks but guess what ?

Gamespot gave 5.5, that's worse than Haze my friend

Now let's see what you ladies have to say now.

Oh and when I meant XBox 360 has no good games I meant, they have flagship games.

Good Day Ladies !

Oh by the way ten years of development, I'm talking about TOO HUMAN

Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/22

blacktiger: Once again were talking about Leipzig and your still hung up on Too Human. You really must be living in Sony's world.

To wrap things up the metacritic score for Too Human is 68 right now where as Haze is 55.

The other big difference between the 2 games is that 360 owners will actually buy Too Human regardless of reviews. PS3 owners have been avoiding Haze like the plague ever since it got slammed by reviewers.

Oh and 10 years of development wasn't 10 years spent on the 360. That 10 years actually started back with the PS1 when Too Human was conceptually designed. Seeing as how the 360 isn't even 3 years old, and final sdk's were only delivered 3 years ago, it would be impossible for Too Human to have been in development for 10 years on the 360.

So don't ever speak about those 2 games again.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/22

Kenny K: Don't let a select few run you off like that. I say stay awhile. Maybe you will run them off :p

Better yet show me a website that doesn't have fanboys and I will check it out too. I have yet to go to a website that didn't have fanboys. So I figure this website is tolerable because there are only a few extreme fanboys on it compared to others...
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

Too Human has been in development for 3 years, which includes building an engine, get your facts straight before spewing ignorant bullshit Blacktiger. I also don't see how Fable 2, Banjo, Viva 2, Gears 2, Halo wars, and Alan Wake aren't flagship titles. Not to mention the games that I know are coming that have yet to be revealed. I understand that Viva may not be a game you like, hell I don't care for it, but it's VERY ignorant to say a game sucks just because you don't like it. That's the difference between a real gamer and a fantard like you.

I don't want to start a list wars, but this site is so filled with sony loving idiots that it's hard not to bring up the positive points of the 360's future. It gets so old for people to cry, out of ignorance, that the 360 doesn't have any games in year X, when they don't even know what games are coming. Just because sony loves to reveal games that are 2-3 years away doesn't mean that Ninty or MS have to.

There is no winning with these fanboys, their heads are so deep in the dirt that they can't see any logic or reason behind anyone's opinion other than their own. I think it's a benefit to be able to look at things objectively and realize that it's wrong and you learn from it. I love to learn from any way possible. But these people will ignore any point that has merit and live in their own world. The truth isn't always easy to take, so it's easier to keep thinking that system X is better than system Y than to realize that they are both great systems and are soo similar that it's sick

I agree that every site has it's share of fanboys, but on the othe sites, those fanboys are corrected and moderated by the site's staff. This doesn't happen here since DM chooses to ignore just about everything. On other sites, the fanboys are the minority that usually get beaten down by the majority of level headed gamers, but not here. Oh no, the fanboys are the VAST majority while the few people here with brains have to suffer from constant, and ignorant, system bashing and immiture comments left and right.

Kenny K:....Hey man, i was just proving blacktiger wrong(not that i need to) but i agree with you when you say "this site is so filled with sony loving idiots that it's hard not to bring up the positive points of the 360's future". Im a 360 fan, but i know when to give props to PS3 when they've earned it.
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2008/08/22

Response to Kenny K:

You are WRONG in one area...I'm not an arrogant jerk like you are, though; I will give you credit by assuming that your wording may have been out of context, but I want to clear things up.

You previously said:

"It's easier to develop natively on the ps3 first and port to the 360 than the other way around. Easier = less development time needed, thus less money spent."

So, let me make the necessary corrections:

(1) It is ALWAYS significantly easier and less expensive to develop games natively on the Xbox 360.

(2) I think what you were talking about was in the "porting" process. It is ALWAYS much easier and much less expensive to port a game from the PS3 to the Xbox 360 than it is to port an Xbox 360 game to the PS3.

The reason for this is because the Xbox 360 is capable of polygon graphic performance that is superior to the Playstation 3. For example, the GPU of the Xbox 360 can display 500,000,000 polygons per second, while the GPU of the PS3 can display only 275,000,000.

Obviously it takes a lot less effort (less cost and less development time) to have a game using 275,000,000 polygons on a system that can display 500,000,000 than it is to try and put a game using 500,000,000 polygons on a system that can only handle 275,000,000.

This is the reason why a game like Ridge Racer is released a YEAR later on the Playstation 3, but has significantly less polygon detail. For example, the waves in the water move in the Xbox 360 version, but the developers needed to find ways to save polygons in the PS3 translation, so the waves in the water don't move on the PS3.

(3) When developers want to create a new game with new gameplay, it is ALWAYS better to make either the Xbox 360 or the PC the lead development platform, because those two development environments are so easy to test new gameplay, new physics, and new artificial intelligence. Taking time to experiment with factors like that is foolish to do on the Playstation 3, because it will take so much more time and cost so much more money.
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

Originally, I guess you could call me a 360 fan, even though I hate that term personally. I'm not a fanboy of any console, I just have preferences towards things like services, controllers, and most importantly games. People here would label me as a xbox fanboy, when I never really bashed the ps3, I just didn't ride the hype train that it was really this uber-powerful system set to dwarf the 360. I kept my expectations based in reality instead of letting Sony's PR doing the thinking for me and because of that I was a fanboy.

If any company has been pissing me off lately it's MS due to some of the stupid moves they have made, but even with these opinions, I can still see the value in every console (yes Victus even the Wii =p).

Like I said in the other article, it's only because the ps3 is finally starting to mold itself into a great platform, that we have these idiots proclaiming Year X as "the year of the ps3". I don't recall any xbots claiming every year as the year of the 360 when the ps3 was shit and the 360 was gathering great content left and right.

There have been hypocrites across the board this gen, but the Sony-tards have really taken it all to a new low this entire generation. I guess fear will do that to you.
Written by The Ow In Wow8 on 2008/08/22

Kenny K: I agree with you 100%.
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

Holy shit Krogan, just shut the fuck up, the reason that it's easier to port from the ps3 to the 360 has little to do with the poly counts and poly detail has more to do with the shader effects involved than it does with the poly count.

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, so please don't ever "correct" me again
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/08/22

No amount of Sony fanboyism has reached the lows of Krogan, sorry.
Written by The Ow In Wow8 on 2008/08/22

Krogan...Not a smart move, you should have kept that to yourself...
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

Can't agree Victus, sorry, I think Krogan just makes up for sky (who is almost as bad himself), dudeman, and blacktiger. Neither side is innocent.

We have Krogan who is spinning facts for his own agenda, then we have the pse-tards who just like to pull shit out of their ass
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/22

so neither side is innoncent, but you are ?
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

What kind of immiture fanboy bullshit have I posted since I started chatting back here blacktiger? So yes, I am innocent because I don't take a fucking side.
Written by captkey3s on 2008/08/22

(7) Mirror's Edge looks like a decent game, but it won't be anything too special. The girl in Mirror's Edge definitely isn't in the same league as Laura Croft or Joanna Dark.

@KrogAss: One of the dumbest things I've ever read on this site.

Kenny K It seems to come to realize the madness that is the norm here. The comments section is no longer about discussing games it's the battleground for the "Holy fanboy war"(not every is a fanboy here but you'll know them when you see them), logic no longer lives here friend. Do as i do sit back and enjoy the entertainment.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/22

hahahah, so according to you everyone takes sides ?

pls ppl aren't taking side,

ppl are actually revealing facts of the negative and positive,

but if you can't handle then GTFO !

Remember I dont like how Killzone 2 comes out, and I'm hardcore FPS not a SONY fanboy,

I like to hear the negative and the positive from anyone, so i can actually learn some of it...
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/22

blacktiger: Obviously you haven't learned a damn thing since you have been on here. I figured you would have at least learned some proper english skills. Maybe some spelling and grammar?

You can't praise everything PS3, rip everything 360, and then claim that you aren't a PS3 fanboy but rather a fps fanboy. If you were a fps fanboy then you would prefer the 360 anyways...

Maybe you need to go sit in the corner and have a timeout till you learn how to behave on this site properly :p
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/22

hahaha I prefer 360 if i was a FPS fanboy, first of all.

I'm not saying 360 controller is bad, but i feel DualShock is the most comfortable controller ever,

And Resistance is my favourite game of all time, after medal of honor, so no thank you for now... Since Resistance 2 is comming soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon

Hey Krogass,

there is something I forgot to tell you,

Your right that PS3 is hard to program, but not anymore,

I think you watched Sony's Conference, and waht develoeprs had to say about PS3, and if you didn't nevermind, it won't matter to you, anyways...
Written by The Ow In Wow8 on 2008/08/22

Pimp: I dont think he cought your "Spelling" and "Grammar" Speech.

Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/22

blacktiger: F*ck it. You think RFOM and Medal of Honor are the best fps ever. I guess since you only have a PS3 that explains alot. Do us all a favor and try out some games on the 360, using the 360 controller, playing on Live then comment. Till then you will always sound like the narrow minded Sony tool you are.

Seeing as how I have used both consoles extensively and thus thier respective controllers. I would have to say that the 360 controller is hands down better suited for fps/tps/all shooter games.

Your b3yond help...
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

Wow so we're going back to the 360 only having shooters now huh? Let's see sony hypocrite fact # 1,383: Last gen the xbox was the "shooter box" and that was bad in sony land, but now it's ok when Sony's biggest projects are shooters. /hypocrite.

Blacktiger just proved everything I stated earlier about how people act around here. The ps3 is still the most difficult platform to program for, that's not always a negative when some developers welcome the challenge. However in a economic standpoint, if you have two systems and you have to work (thus spend) 2X the amount of energy to come up with the same result, then there is some merit behind the complaints.

It's true that the development environment behind the ps3 has improved, but it's still lacking way behind Ninty's and MS' dev support and tools.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/22

Look me hating the controller.. it just too bulky,

I mean im sure every console that fails or pass has good games, it just im not comfortable with that controller,

Now Halo is good, but not my type...

Oh and I want to point out clearly, that Medal of Honor Allied Assault is the only one that i liked,

the rest is garbage!

I never played Halo online, should be fun, infact it must be addicted like MOHAA cause of LIVE... but yea,

but again the controller...

not my type...
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/08/22

I like shooters, and they can be found in plentiful amounts on both HD consoles. I also like other games on both platforms.

I have smaller hands and don't find the 360 too bulky. Both the PS3 and 360 controllers fit my hands well.
Written by Kenny K on 2008/08/22

WTF are you going on about blacktiger? If you don't like the 360 controller fine, if it's too bulky that just means you have girly hands and we're fine with that.

However what I'm not fine with is the fact that since you don't like the 360's controller, all of a sudden the ps3 is the best system and every year will be "the year of the PS3"

Fucking lay off of it, I can't stand the ps3's controllers because they are too small and my hand cramps up but that doesn't cause me to bash the ps3 every chance I get.

You're a sony loving fantard
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/22

Listen Kenny K

Let me be clear to you,

i'm like the guy at themovieblog website,

I dont give a crap about the developers or the corporate, waht i care is give me good fps games and I'm good to go!

mean while I do wana enjoy other exclusive games, like LBP and so on...

If Far Cry 2 were to be exclusive for 360, no question ask, i better kick myself and get used to with that controller and buy 360 !!!

Kenny k

please don't get too emotional...

This is just ppl giving opinions, waht you want me to do if i dont like 360 controller,

Are you gonna have some depression or something...
Written by Nemesis IX on 2008/08/22

Shut up krogan if you knew anything about Polygon development you'd be shocked how wrong you are, every detailed model these days are made in zbrush and its actually as easy or sometimes even easier in Zbrush to make a high poly model because of its in build mesh creater called "Z spheres".

I won't go into detail but polygon development is easy these days, all really determined on the artist now not the time and cost, a good character artist could make a complete model in a day or even less.

Also Engines these days use systems called raycasting culling which effectively gives the engines an unlimited polycount, the Unreal 3 engine is especially good at this. A model up close could have 12'000 polys and at at a determined distance when scanned by the raycasting it will cut out most of its mesh more that 90% in some models types(quad Mesh) plus its texture maps except the diffuse.

So Krogan don't talk about engines or polycounts if you know nothing about them.

Quick guide for anyone who has unreal 3 for pc,

1). open up the editor included

2). load a default map

3). go to wireframe mode, the button is on the top bar of each window

4). now look at a high poly piece of mesh close up then move away and you'll see it decrease in its mesh density. You can see it clearly with terrain.

there you are, a quick explanation of mesh efficiency.

This Game see mediocre, even though it adds something new to the genre. It looks like one of those linear games that you can just run through because of the items changing color is like telling you how to play it. You know one of those games that gives you directions as you go along instead of making you explore. Well that just my opinion on that.

I didn't post comments for a while here because at this point in time I obviously have more of a social life than Kenny K and VaeVictus.

Kenny K, I'm not like you; I don't get swatted down, I get even!

Time after time our paths have crossed, Kenny K. Each time I only had two goals:

(1) Chew Bubblegum

(2) Kick your ASS!

*** And each time your pathetic attitude motivated me to spit out my bubblegum very quickly!

It is YOU have have been swatted down by me repeatedly...Now, move a couple atoms to the left so that you are once again standing PERFECTLY in my shadow!

Response to The Owe in Wow 8:

Actually, my comment about Polygon counts is 100% accurate. This is the whole reason why several multi-platform games run at DOUBLE the framerate on the Xbox 360.

Bottom Line: If a multi-platform game ends up running at 30 frames per second on the PS3, and displaying 250,000,000 polygons or less, it DEFINITELY will end up running at 60 frames per second on the Xbox 360! This is a situation that has happened several times this generation, STRICTLY because of the Xbox 360 GPU Shader AND POLYGON superiority.

Nemesis IX:

Your comment about the Unreal Engine 3 offering virtually unlimited polygon counts is total bogus my friend...It seriously sounds like you attended a Sony Trinitron TV convention where they were trying to say that a screen that is Vertically-Flat but NOT Horizontally-Flat is better than a screen that is 100% flat...Fact is, Sony was just upset that their patent expired and companies like Samsung not only "equalled" the Trinitron, but they INSTANTLY SURPASSED it in quality.

We need to be realistic. If the Unreal Engine 3 offered the type of performance that you were speaking of, there would be no need for an Unreal Engine 4, which is currently in development and is on schedule for release in 2012.

Bottom Line: Xbox 360 versions of multi-platform games sometimes run at TWICE the framerate as the PS3 version, display resolutions up to 40% higher, and have more polygon detail.

Example: The waves under the bridge in Ridge Racer actually MOVE in the Xbox 360 version, but they do NOT move in the PS3 version! The REASON for this is because the Playstation 3 GPU did NOT offer the same level of performance as the Xbox 360.

Yes huge fail by Krogan, he knows nothing about games technology, proved it again right there, i use the unreal engine for mods so i know what i'm talking about, don't talk to me about game tech Krogan cos i'm always going to be right.

"Krogan fails again"

"Playstation 3 owners LOSE again"

The bottom line is that there is a SPECIFIC reason why Playstation 3 versions of games run at only 30 frames per second, while the Xbox 360 versions run at a much smoother 60 frames per second. That reason is GPU superiority.

Nemesis IX,

The Playstation 3 was never even supposed to have a GPU; it was supposed to have two Cell CPU processors.

When Sony saw how much better performance the revolutionary GPU in the Xbox 360 offered, Sony knew that they would need to redesign the Playstation 3 so that a GPU was included. Unfortunately, the GPU in the PS3 is not nearly as good as the one in the Xbox 360...this mush is universally agreed upon.

What's worse is that when Sony redesigned the Playstation 3, it was necessary to remove one of the Cell CPU processors. As a result, the PS3 ended up very difficult to program.

Obviously I have researched these facts and gathered a lot of data.

I am nice enough to use games like Ridge Racer as comparisons to show the differences in ways that are easy to understand in real-world situations.

Obviously, waves of water under a bridge are supposed to move...on the Xbox 360 the waves move, and are filled with polygons. Each wave is filled with polygons.

But the Playstation 3 version of Ridge Racer has a textured "image" of waves...but the waves NEVER move...because the Playstation 3 does NOT have the polygon power to generate that many "moving" objects.

Nemesis IX...I give you credit for designing "mods" using an engine that somebody else created...but when it comes to actually programming games and taking advantage of technology, actions speak much louder than words...

Bottom Line: Xbox 360 outperforms the Playstation 3...just look at the waves and the framerates for proof.

Instead of bitching about who's a bigger fanboy blah blah blah, why not just stick with expressing your opinion of the article, or why you disagree with someone else's opinion. There are fanboys on every platform. One isn't worse than the other, and no amount of bickering back and forth is going to change this. Doesn't this argument get old?

FWIW, I'm on the fence about Mirror's Edge. One thing that I'm a tad worried about is in watching one of the latest gameplay trailers, the action seemed way too quick, liek you were on rails, and at some points, you were taking an action based on the fact that you reached a red glowing object, without having any clue where it would take you. I found it distracting and kinda ruined the immersion. Like you're not really in control of the thought process behind the decision to climb something. Am I making any sense? Did anyone else notice this?

EXACTLY as Krogan said!!!

!!!Krogan WINS again!!!

...one thing has changed, though. I did some investigating into this game, and the young lady in Mirror's Edge is named "Faith."

This is going to be a GREAT game, which I now have a LOT of "Faith" in!!!

At this point in time I now believe Faith has the same type of charisma as Laura Croft and Joanna Dark!
