Ubisoft Dooms Tom Clancy's Endwar With Release Date Nov 7? > |
2008/09/16 15:29:18: Posted by DM | |
For reasons that we cannot fathom, Ubisoft has decided that Tom Clancy's Endwar, the new RTS game in the franchise, will be released on November 7, 2008. Does that date sound familiar, folks? Well, it should. This is because it is the same day that both Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 are set for release. Even a first-year marketing intern knows how bad of a decision this is. Could Ubisoft want to kill the project on purpose? We can tell you from participating in the beta that the voice command in the game works great, could there be other, more serious technical issues going on that cannot be fixed? We shall see.

Maybe they're trying to send a message that this game is going to be that damn good that they can release it with these games?

Come on. This is Ubisoft we're talking about here, and a Tom Clancy game to boot. Last time I checked, both were heavy hitters in the game industry. This is also the Christmas buying season, so I don't think it makes a big difference if it's the same week, or a week or two before or after. People who want this game are going to buy it, or get a family member to buy it for them and put it under the tree. Not to mention, they might very well boost sales by piggybacking on the two other huge releases. I mean, some people will walk into the store to buy Gears or R2, and also see Endwar. Some of those people will buy both, and some might actually walk out with Endwar instead of Gears 2 and R2, especially if those two games are sold out. Sounds like a better strategy than releasing a week later.

It is a rather retarded release date. I will be spending $120+ tax that day on Gears 2 and RFoM 2. Endwar.....not so much.

The way I look at it is that if it doesn't sell well on the release date it wont be a big deal. Tom Clancy game fans will eventually buy this game no matter what. I rarely buy a game at launch anyways. So as long as it is sitting on store shelves come this holiday season, it will get the attention it deserves.
