Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

Another addition to the multiplayer game mode is the new clan support feature. Clan support was planned but never actually implemented in the original GRAW, this is likely because Ubisoft just said to hell with it and decided to include it from scratch in the sequel. With the clan feature you can manage your clan membership, challenge other clans, and take stock of clan stats. Other games offer clan support on the Xbox360, such as Battlefield 2, but GRAW 2 is the first game which really makes the clan feature accessible. For instance, in BF2, the clan servers are shut down after a certain amount of clan games per day. This limit was usually reached right around lunch time, so it meant that to me and my clan, the clan play was ostensibly closed. This is not so in GRAW 2, where clan matches can happen any time, and are even recorded by the Ubisoft servers.

While there have been complaints that the game lags during Live play overseas, here in the US, I must say, I have not experienced or heard of any issues, even when playing with a full complement of 16. I am even able to host games using my cable modem which is something I almost never am able to do. If there are real issues overseas, you can be sure that Ubisoft will address them with a patch as soon as there is a viable fix.

As I said, just like in the original game, there are literally dozens of multiplayer modes in GRAW 2. Too many to list here, if you are familiar with the modes from GRAW, you will find them all here. Your standard CTF, assault, siege, deathmatch, and domination mode analogs are all included, as well as a new mode or two for some diversity. One of the best fixes that Ubisoft made to all of these modes is the spawn points. In the original game, an experienced team could easily exploit the opposing force’s spawn points, much to the chagrin of the players who unknowingly spawned into a hail of bullets. This time around it is much harder to do because players spawn within a region, not a specific spot. Of course, on a few maps, spawn camping is still possible, but on most maps it is a non-issue.

The lobby system, game setup options, and pre-game equipment selection system are all more or less identical to the last game. There are little additions, like the lobby now says who the host of the game is on the bottom of the screen, but for the most part things have stayed the same. Once again, when you join a lobby when a game is in mid-match, you will have to wait until the round is over before you can see the action. You can talk with the players still, of course, but you will not be able to see anything.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 has taken the original GRAW and tweaked most of the things that the avid players of the original title complained about. Yes, Ubisoft actually listened to what we had to say, and fixed most of the issues. Hard to believe in this day and age, I know. I also know that people will read this review and ask, “but what are the drawbacks, the flaws?” Well, to be honest, there are not many. There have been complaints that the game crashes Xbox360 units, but that happens with most every title that is released on the console. While it is true I would have loved to see a greater constant frame rate, and totally configurable controls with a look sensitivity option, but those issues are really not enough of a nuisance to take away from the game unless you really let them. GRAW 2 is a fantastic title, both online and offline, and it is something any Xbox360 gamer should be able to enjoy.
