Now on to the real issue at hand – the performance. Keep in mind that the phone was set to a brightness of 50% for duration. Being only an amateur at testing batteries, I did some of my own testing, so bear with me.

First of all, Mugen recommends you charge full and discharge fully the battery a few times before full use. I did this by charging the battery fully, and then leaving the phone unplugged until the battery warning came on. I did this three times. The fourth full charge is where I began the testing. The battery that the Verizon xv6800 comes with standard promises two weeks of standby time and 5.4 hours of talk time. This is such an exaggeration that I cannot even use these numbers for reference. In real-world time, the battery lasts about 2 hours for talk time, and about 13 hours on standby. I give you this information just for a reference point.

The Mugen battery performed exactly as an extended battery should. Firstly, the standby time was a whopping 26.3 hours. At this point the device was below 10% battery life and warned it needed a charge to protect the data from corruption. So, I plugged it in for a full recharge. I then tested the talk time as best I could and I was able to get about 4.9 hours of conversation. You have to keep in mind, with smartphones that run an OS like Windows Mobile 6, there are so many different ways to affect battery life that any reading on battery life can only be a good estimate, at best.

When using the phone to test talk time, I not only made calls, but used the Internet Explorer to surf the web, and main I used the phone to play both Solitaire and Bubble Breaker, the games included with the phone. Since GR is ultimately a gaming website, I thought that would be appropriate. The fact that the Mugen battery gives the phone as much gaming battery life as something along the lines of a Sony PSP, is impressive. This means that for you gamers out there who want a cell phone Windows-based gaming option, you now have one. You can try gaming on the xv6800 with the standard battery, but good luck getting anywhere with that.

More and more people are using smartphones these days, and more and more people are participating in mobile gaming. When you want to combine the two though, it will usually mean you will have a mediocre option at best when it comes to battery life. Well, now that Mugen has come out with this fantastic extended battery for one of the better smartphones out there, there is an option for a gaming smartphone that is actually practical. While the battery is a bit priced at $85 USD or so, it is well worth every bit if you plan to use your smartphone in any capacity other than the occasional game or web surf session. Once again, I thank Mugen for the opportunity to review this great product, and if anyone is interested in boosting their mobile gaming performance through the roof, check the link below.
