Activision Blocks Rock Band Guitar Compatibility Patch >
2007/12/13 11:08:14: Posted by DM
Apparently the rumors are true. Sony has had a patch now for two weeks which would allow the use of third party peripherals with Rock Band on the PS3, including the Guitar Hero guitar, but Activision has protested and Sony will not release the patch because of this. Considering alot of people's Rock Band guitar, including ours, has already broken, this seems not only greedy, but dumb.

"Two weeks ago, Harmonix created a software patch for the Sony PLAYSTATION 3 version of Rock Band that allowed for guitar compatibility and support for third party peripherals, including enabling use of Activision's Guitar Hero III controller with Rock Band," the company told Shacknews. "Unfortunately, Activision objected to the release of the compatibility patch," the statement continues. "The patch remains with Sony, but we have been told that it will unfortunately not be released due to Activision's continued objection."

This makes absolutely no sense. Activision could sell more guitar controllers this way. If they stop this from going through, I'm going to boycott Activision from now on.

Yep.

Activision deserves to be boycotted for this.

This is the same reason why I am not going to buy anymore Xbox Live Arcade games, and I am not going to buy any Xbox Downloads...

The reason: Because when your Xbox 360 is either upgraded or experiences a defect, then you LOSE the ability to play those games Offline...and Microsoft will simply say "It's in the contract that you agreed to when you bought it."

So...now I am saying "I am NOT buying anything like that again."

i know you're upset about how their downloadable game security works, but it's not really related to blocking a patch...

I really don't see a better way to handle the Xbox Live Arcade issue, but at least you can still play them. Not the case on Wii. It just makes it an annoyance to have to be connected to the internet.

Wah Wah, I can't use my GH guitar in Rock Band. Boo freaking hoo. Don't blame Activision, blame Harmonix for not including an extra guitar in the bundle.
