Little Big Planet Dev Says Couldn't Have Made For 360 >
2008/09/10 9:50:15: Posted by DM
LBP for the Playstation 3 is being positioned by Sony to be the Holiday title for gamers to own. Sony is hoping it turns into a system seller, although we are not so sure. Media Molecule's Alex Evans spoke with GI about the game, and he admitted that the game is not something that could have been made for the Xbox360. This is because of the large capacity Blu-Ray disc, and the standard HDD.

"With LBP as it is, we couldn't have made it on the Xbox 360 and the reason for that is actually because we designed it around the PS3's strengths," explained Evans in a recent interview.

I recently watched a video of Peter Molyneux discussing the challenges of not having a hard drive in some 360s and the develoment problems it caused. HOWEVER...his team was able to overcome this challenge.

cue the sony fantards to the circle jerk

"Circ-jerking complete" Anyone have a cigarette?

I guess it could be considered factual seeing as the game allegedly uses 40G's.

God forbid someone promote their console and game right? With the amount of money Sony likely threw into this game, Alex Evans is probably very content with "hyping" the PS3. If Nintendo paid me well enough, I'd hype the Wii.

I don't care about a dev hyping up their game or whatever console it's featured on.

It's the fantards that twist it around to be more than it is that bothers me.

I've always said that any game would be possible on either system, granted specific changes may need to be done to accommodate each system. So with that said, I always hated it when a dev comes out saying that Game X can only be done on System Y because it's usually BS, and worse it's BS that the fanboys like to twist around.

As for the 40GB quote, I believe it takes up that much space but within what context. Is it like most other games where data is duplicated and every region is pressed on the same disk? Quoting GBs usually isn't so straight forward.

Oh I understand and wasn't specifically calling anyone out. I know where this thread was going to go, so I made my statement up front.

I can understand why he'd say such a thing however. A game like this "create & share" would likely require a hard drive, something that every PS3 has.

That being said, the idea that one game can or can't be made on a system isn't going to make me want to buy it anymore. If it's a good game, I'll buy it, regardless of whether or not it's on another system or not.

EDIT: "used 'or not' one too many times"

I agree and I wasn't trying to group you with the fantards. But like I said, the whole thing of "only possible on X system" is stupid. I didn't agree with it when it said about Gears 1, I don't believe it with LBP, and I'm sure everyone remembers it said about Haze. I mean Haze for cryin out loud was one of the games used as ammo here, that POS game.

As for the HDD being the issue, I think Evan would have been more accurate in pointing out MS' stance on user created content since there have been a few games that require the HDD on the 360. The HDD, and possible DVD, probably wouldn't be an issue, but MS' policy on sharing content probably would have been.

Either way, whoever gets the game, enjoy it, it looks like good fun.

I'm kind of amazed at the strong positive response I hear from casual and hardcore gamers alike about LBP. I mean my wife, who other than Sudoku, Klondike and Mahjong on her iPhone has a total disinterest in any video game she sees actually keeps asking me when LBP is coming out. My online first person shooter buddies are also almost unanimously excited for the title. Feels like the makings of the perfect storm.

Belive it or not, he didn't say anything bad about 360 So I hope the fanboys don't go crazy,

He only said the game was specifically design for PS3 hardware and to make it for 360 it would be a different game,

It still could be made on the 360. I guarantee if MS were the 1st company to approach MM about this title that it could have been made. The whole "can't be made" comment needs to diaf.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/11

"Technically" I think it could have been made, but again I think that MS would have fudged it up with their stupid user-generated policies.

Honestly LBP is more at home on the PS3 IMO. Sony owns the rights to the IP so that's where it'll stay.
