Metacritic Score Pressue On Devs Is 'Ridiculous' Says One > |
2009/01/20 17:01:59: Posted by DM | |
Splash Damage studio director Paul Wedgwood spoke with GI recently to discuss the pressure for review scores levied on developers. Apparently, the press to obtain a high Metacritic score is ridiculous at times, and said he thinks that a switch to a 5-star system would be much more prudent for the industry. He says that basing developers bonuses on the thoughts of game journalists is arbitrary, and cites at least one instance where a team was required to post 9/10 scores rather than the 8/10 scores the game deserved. Some interesting accusations are levied, check it out.

Did you read the same article I did DM? I think you misread what he said. He was saying that a developer should go back to a publisher and ask for a bigger bonus if they get 9/10 as opposed to 8/10. He didn't say anything accusing a reviewer of being influenced to over-inflate their scores. Not saying it doesn't happen, but this interview is definitely not your smoking gun. It's not even a gun, or a cigarette for that matter.
