Microsoft Prepping For Handheld Device? >
2006/01/15 17:37:17: Posted by DM
Now, keep in mind this is only speculation based on one event, but it certainly does have some merit. Dave Baumann, the administrator of Beyond3D wrote: "LOL! I just found out last night that Bob Felstien, formerly the VP of Engineering heading up the Xbox project is now the head of engineering for handheld devices..." Could MS and ATI be looking into making a handheld device? You decide.

Well i probably shouldn't tell this, but nobody knows who i am anyway so i'll go ahead and do it yes this is 100% true they've been thinking about a handled for awhile, but figured they wanted to deal with the 360 console first.

It's one of the mystery addon peripherals that will be able to connect to your xbox360. I know nothing about the specs, but from what I hear this handheld will cause ALOT of consumers and nintendo especially given their handheld successes over the years to say wow.

Chances are this thing wont be ready till 2007, but its coming and apparently it'll have a built in mini directv receiver similar to what you'd find in some expensive hdtvs. (This handheld wont be the only method of getting directv on your 360 though)

There are other things that will be added, but thats all i know so far.

In other news enchant arm the 360's first japanese rpg is simply amazing. Starts out slow holding your hand every step of the way so to speak and then it picks up.

You initially aren't too impressed by the look of the first environment you are put in, but it gets drastically better later. The story and character development seem extremely top notch.

optaviusx... i doubt your credible, but since i want you to be, i beleive you. sounds sweet. do you work for microsoft or something?
Written by optaviusx on 2006/01/15
Thats respectable otoole I know its hard to believe some random guy on a website, but you'll see in 2007 that what I said here is accurate.

I respect what you said though because I myself would instantly dismiss the same exact comment I made if it was another person that made it and I didn't have an inside scoop on the handheld to judge if it was true or not.

They are a money greedy company.

I don't think so QuestimElite Microsoft has been crucial to the advancement of many of the things we enjoy today. Things wouldn't be quite the same without microsoft I'm not saying they are saints, but they do alot for the industry in general.

Them even thinking of investing in a handheld just helps consumers. We have more choices, more good handheld games, more competition this all benefits us.

This is just exciting. If they were money hungry they wouldn't have sold the original xbox and now the 360 at a loss.

there still hasnt been gain on the xbox has there? Though there is dishonesty in all three companies, it seems like microsoft is holding to their trush the most. It seems like microsoft has not overstated its powernearly as much as sony has with their "supercomputer," and they bring products to the stage they say they will. They said they would bring a large range of games, well it seems like they are - they are bringing games that range from fps, and actions games to rpgs and rts games (LOTR). So to me it seems like microsoft is bringing the most to consumers by holding their word.

WAIT WAIT WAIT

Microsoft ripping other companies ideas and making it look like they thought of it.

NO FUCKING WAY

Sega had the TV in a handheld

Nintendo had the handheld to console connectivity

Microsoft had to steal their ideas

Stop being idiotic.. to make any sort of advanced you have to take what has been working and then IMPROVE on it with your own little twist... Welcome to the business world kid.

What do you think sony is trying to do against apple? Digital walkman is a blatant rip off of the ipod and its funny you leave such a thing out. Stop making a fool out of yourself for god sakes.

Xbox live arcade Microsoft's idea, xbox live microsoft's idea, bringing directv to a console?, putting movie trailers, game demos, game trailer, developer interviews up for download through a console.. all breakthroughs.

Lets not forget developers can now issue updates to games they've already released via xbox live, map pack downloads, new characters, new gamer pics, new gamer themes, seamless interativity between your windows computer and the xbox360, wirelessly transfer things from your windows media pc to the xbox360??? Gamer cards? Achievements sytem? Xbox live diamond cards for everyone with an xbox360 for free??? Full fledged music service soon to be introduced to a friggin console thanks to mtv urge? Partnership with starz so they can provide 360 owners with hi-def movies on the way as well... this stuff coming to a CONSOLE...

All innovations by microsoft just goes to show you truly have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

The entire marketplace is an innovation in itself. Sega didn't copy nintendo by bringing out a handheld? Nokia didn't attempt to copy as well with n-gage? Sony isn't copying with psp?

So its alright for all those other companies, but wrong for microsoft? Microsoft again will be doing something nobody has ever done before with their new handheld. They don't just copy they try to improve on. Thats what all good businesses do. Why was Iriver made??? To compete with ipod. Why were mp3 players made? ultimate tv, tivo... this is how business works everyone copies something, but then trys to add their own uniqueness to it.

There has been talk of this for years. I even remember mock ups. I highly doubt it unless it is a PDA type thing.

Anyone else remember the turbo graphics pocket or whatever. It did both years ago, though dunno which had tv first.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/01/16
Lets be real here in this day and age those things HAVE to be included.

Should every major company do away with what is a good innovation when making something new? If that was the case then we'd have good products I hope you know. The point of new products is to be able to say we can do everything this one can do, but we can also do something new it can't....

Xbox Live Arcade reminds me of "The Sega Channel" that they had back in the day for the Genesis. Nintendo also had the NES online, although XBox live is more succesful than those, to say that they are completely new ideas is total crap.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/01/19
haha oh man i forgot about the sega channel... What was it for again you could like get games for a couple of days right? I remember around the time mortal kombat 3 was out and people were going mad over the sega channel oh man nice memory i completely forgot about that damn thing.

Well what makes MS think that there handheld version just like PSP and Nintendo DS will do any better they minus face it there just not cut out to be in the gaming business and they are just good at making softwares and PC games they should just stick to there old route or paper route and just keep on paddling until they get around the next block.
