The multiplayer mode does have one gaping flaw which is almost too unbelievable to be real. There is essentially only one gameplay mode online. Why THQ did not slap together another game mode or two is beyond me, but I have a feeling we will be seeing updates galore. Of course, there is no way to run a dedicated server, but that is academic. The last thing to mention is that, apparently, for the 50 player matches you will have to play on the servers THQ has set up. Small problem, but annoying nonetheless.




Frontlines: Fuel of War is an ambitious title that is trying to capitalize not only on the game trends of the moment, but also on current world sentiment. I think that in both respects, the game succeeds. Yes, you will hear people crying that the game is just a dressed up rip off of Battlefield, but then again, what tactical military shooter these days does not receive the same accusation when there are controls points included in the game? The bottom line is that the game delivers on all the levels that is sets out before the players, and does so in a way that is not only fun, but engrossing. Sure, the single player could have a better told and more enveloping story, and the multiplayer mode could have more modes (updates please THQ), but these are small complaints, and the baseline game is worth a purchase for anyone who has finished with Battlefield 2: MC and GRAW.
