PS3 Business Is 'Hemorrhaging At Retail' Says MS > |

Following the release of the most recent NPD sales figures, Microsoft has been crowing about its 53% Xbox360 sales boost for the last year. Aaron Greenberg, 360 product management director, said the gain was mainly due to increasing momentum. Games like GTA IV and its download add-on, the Lost and Damned, have pushed the 360's number sky high. Greenberg went on to take a jab at the PS3, saying that the PS brand at retail is "hemorrhaging" because many PS2 owners are migrating to the Xbox360, not the Sony next-gen console. It would be interesting to see how many PS2 users actually did switch to MS, someone quick do a study!

Always have to love the PR speak after NPD. I know the ps3's sales have been down YoY for the last 4 or 5 months but this is an exaggeration when the real reason is price. The 360 was stagnant for a period due to MS refusing to drop the price as well.I would think for the casual audience, the Wii is winning over more of the ps2 audience. However for the mainstream gamer, there is evidence that shows MS is eating into the PS2's pie more than Sony is.

Kinda presumptuous on Greenberg's part considering Sony sold 1/3 as many PS2s last month as MS sold XBox 360's. Seems to me if Sony is still selling that many PS2s that it's likely PS2 owners are just as likely to be sticking with their older consoles and biding their time. I mean, there are more than 120 million of them out there, so MS has a long way to go to to put a dent in Sony's backup plan. As for Nintendo, I don't think many PS2 owners would be happy with the game selection of the Wii for long. I really think the Wii is a second (or third, or fourth) system for a lot of people, and a good chunk of their customers are new to consoles.
