AWESOME,

I bought this expansion, and the reports were correct, this full Expansion Pack updates the graphics even more than the last update. The graphics are updated throughout the entire game!

And by the way VaeVictus, I have read SEVEN website reviews of the Playstation 3 version of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, and ALL of them rated the Xbox 360 version higher!!!

One time I saw that the review score of the Xbox 360 game was just a single decimal point higher, but I thought to myself, "at least this will show VaeVictus that he was a fool!"

ALL of the reviews say that the better version is the Xbox 360, not just because of differences in graphics, or load times, or the larger number of glitches in the Playstation 3 version, but because of the fact that the Playstation 3 version is missing the Shivering Isles expansions and ALL of the other downloads made for the Xbox 360!

And that's the BOTTOM LINE!

I normally pride myself on being unbiased, but it is a pleasure spitting in the dirt and rubbing your face in it VaeVictus...because you called me names and acted immature first.

TOLD YA SO, VaeVictus!!!

I thought this expansion was to include the updated graphics and quests that the PS3 received.. so if this is true then in a sense the PS3 version already has Shivering Isles.

taken from ign:

Among the best looking PlayStation 3 titles released thus far and a step up compared to the Xbox 360 version, The Elder Scrolls IV shows off what time and fine-tuning can really do.

this newest port holds an advantage with its quicker loading times.

If i had a PS3 i would get it for the PS3 just for faster load times.

what annoys me is that is 2400 points! damn! thats 40 dollars. i want it so bad but i don't think i could do that right now, i was hoping for 20 dollars ya know?

"daveydz3", u cant count for nothin, if u had no Microsoft Points, and u bought 2,000 points for 25 bucks and 500 points for 6 bucks that will be $31, not 40 bucks moron, go back to school...
Written by captkey3s on 2007/03/26

rrriiiiiggghhhhttt!!! $31 is way less than $40, that's still alot of money for an expansion to me atleast. Its really the same game one just slightly more polished than the other.

Response to Sky:

I suggest you go to college and study Statistical Math.

The Playstation 3 version of Oblivion rating you are referring to on gamerankings.com is only taking account FIVE reviews of the game since it has been launched, on March 20! LOL!!!!!!

The Xbox 360 version has been reviewed by 132 (Yes, ONE-HUNDRED THIRTY-TWO) websites, magazines, and newspapers. Many of those review places appear on GameRanking.com, but not Gamespot, because they are not considered reliable.

Obviously, when a game is reviewed by HUNDREDS of places the averages are going to be effected in a major way.

The BOTTOM LINE is that those MAJOR websites who are RELIABLE all say that the Xbox 360 version is better.

If you want accurate results, you need to compare website to website, not an overall statistical comparison where the Xbox 360 is reviewed 132 times, while the PS3 is reviewed only 5 times! Maybe VaeVictus needs to get his head out of the "Sky" or vice-versa.

And, the one AND ONLY website which rates the PS3 version higher (by one decimal point) specifically has the editor pointing out that he is comparing only the original games to each other, and he was not compariing the Xbox 360 downloads into the factor, becuase "he believes" the PS3 version will "eventually" get those downloads at "some point in time."

If the additional downloadable content of the Xbox 360 version would have been factored into that review, like all the others, then the Xbox 360 would have been rated higher in that review, too, just like all the others.

EVERY OTHER review took all of the Xbox 360's additional features into consideration, and that is why it was rated higher on EVERY review!

Don't worry VaeVictus and Sky, in a year or so, you will be playing Shivering Isles...IF Bethesda can figure out a way to make it work for the Playstation 3, like they said in the interview. He...He-HE-he...Ha-HA-Ha-HA-HA

Sky, I not only "called out" VaeVictus, I called him out and found out he was coming out of a closet--with you!!!

I fired warning shots to VaeVictus long ago. Now that the reviews of the major websites have come out and the Xbox 360 version is rated higher, I am simply celebrating my victory over VaeVictus...kind of like I did over Tecno_Geek when Devil May Cry 4 was announced for the Xbox 360.

Can't wait to do it again with Final Fantasy and MGS4.

If I sound biased against you three, it is because I AM!!! Because each of you is immature, and you DESERVE to be SLAPPED DOWN!!!

And I DID slap you down!!! Now, get back in line and STAY there while you wait for Horse Armor, the Thieves Den, and Shivering Isles, among the many other downloads from the Xbox 360 to come to the Playstation 3, IF THEY EVER come to the Playstation 3!!!
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/27

Response to Wil:

Friend, I will explain things a little bit more clearly.

Since the Xbox 360 and PC games have been released, there have been plenty of minor updates released, such as the Horse Armor, Mehrunes' Razor, the Vile Lair, the Wizard's Tower are NOT in the Playstation 3 version, and that won't change anytime soon, because Bethesda has said they are not even sure they can put some of those things on the Playstation 3 at all!

Here is what IGN says in one paragraph of their review of the PS3 version of the game:

"So what's different? For one, the majority of downloadable content available on PC and Xbox 360 didn't make the deadline. That means that Mehrunes' Razor, the Vile Lair, the Wizard's Tower and other post-release goodies are nowhere to be found (and that includes this month's "Shivering Isles" expansion). There isn't a clear answer as to whether or not users will ever be able to download these add-ons either -- so there's a definite possibility that what you see is what you get."

*** Me talking again. The Playstation 3 version of Oblivion includes the minor expansion called "Knights of the Nine" which adds about 8 or 10 hours of gameplay to the game. This has been available on Xbox 360 for quite a while through download.

The HUGE new expansion is called Shivering Isles, and it adds about 30 hours of gameplay, and it will be released on both Xbox Live and at the retail level for Xbox 360 owners who don't have Xbox Live. Shivering Isles is something that likely will never see a release on the Playstation 3, and even if it EVER does it won't be for a LOOOOONG time. Just look at how many times the PS3 version of Oblivion has been delayed, and how it has missed the European launch of the PS3!

The Shivering Isles expansion for the Xbox 360 adds graphical updates that improve the Xbox 360 version beyond what the graphics originally were in the game.

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is the ONLY Playstation 3 game to use the PS3 Hard Drive to help with load times, so that is why the PS3 has load times that are faster by a few seconds when you enter cities. You are comparing somewhere between 3-5 seconds on the PS3 to about 8-10 seconds on the Xbox 360, so it doesn't really matter. Most of the time the Xbox 360 has faster load times because of the Xbox 360's higher data transfer rate of 16MB per second compared to only 9MB per second. But, OBVIOUSLY, having access to all of those extra downloadable features in the Xbox 360 version is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT!!!

Just look at what 1up's review had to say about the Playstation 3 version in the summary:

"But the PS3 version sitting on store shelves right now is inferior to its brethren on other platforms. So I can really only recommend it if you don't own a 360 or a PC capable of running the game well.

In other words, it's one of the best games ever -- but don't buy it unless you have no other choice."

.

Written by Smarty Pantz on 2007/03/27

Why wouldnt they let you download the graphical upgrades for FREE instead of paying another $30 dollars... 360 loses.
Written by Wil on 2007/03/27

Ohh, okay. I thought Shivering Isles was Bethesda's way of giving Xbox 360 owners of Oblivion the extra content they created for the PS3. But, since it's not...

Since they're essentially the same game I wouldn't really be concerned with load times and graphical comparisons -- just get the game for whatever platform you have access too. :)

Of course, I do know that I remember Bethesda talking about how they were unable to include downloadable content with the PS3 version. If that's important to you, then perhaps the PC or XBox 360 versions may be your best bet.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/27

Shivering Isles is NOT some sort of download...it is a HUGE full fledged EXPANSION PACK, which adds 30 HOURS of gameplay to the game!!!

That is why it costs extra money.

People play Oblivion for HUNDREDS of hours, and a HUGE expansion like that is why reliable websites like 1up make it clear that the Playstation 3 version is a fine game, but still the LAST version you would want if you already own an Xbox 360 or a powerful PC.
Written by Wil on 2007/03/27

Smarty Pantz: You're getting extra hours of game play and achievements. What did the say... an extra 30 hours? Something like that.
Written by Smarty Pantz on 2007/03/27

So, if you want the 'best' graphical version of Oblivian you need to pay close to $100 .. good thing you forgot to mention that, right UTP... like i said, 360 loses. They should give you the graphical updates for free.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/27

Response to Smarty Pantz:

Like the professional editor of 1up said in the worldwide review:

"The PS3 version sitting on store shelves right now is inferior to its brethren on other platforms. So I can really only recommend it if you don't own a 360 or a PC capable of running the game well.

In other words, it's one of the best games ever -- but don't buy it unless you have no other choice."

*** Oblivion is one of those games like Warcraft where it is certainly worth another $30 to have such a HUGE expansion that adds SO MUCH gameplay. That is why the Playstation 3 version is considered the last version you would want if you had access to the Xbox 360 and/or a PC.
Written by steve_o_3000 on 2007/03/27

So if you want a bare bones version you gotta pay 60, and if you want the game the way the developers intended for you to play it, you end up paying around a hundred bucks and get the far superior version. PS3 loses.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/27

Response to steve_o_3000,

You got it, buddy, as usual.

Nice summary. I always try to go into great detail, but you did a great job of summarizing things very quickly.

@UTP Oblivion is one of those games you recommended to buy and I went out and bought, I'm barely out the path under the jail house in the begining, I'll play it some more today since XBL will be down today. Just to see what the fuss is all about. I like the way you defended yourself again SKY and Vae.."get in line and wait your turn to get slap down" lol..

@Sky I'm suprised to see you were not posting in the topic about PS3 UK Launch it was suppose to be so great and Europe was supposed to lead to way to ultimate sell out on launch and what not remember? what do you have to say about the weekend result or do want to "DELAY" a month later to comment on it.
Written by Neo Fruity Loops on 2007/03/27

Lots of cry babies on here after Sony had a record breaking launch in the UK. 164k 60gb versions sold.. how do you like that?
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/27

Response to B1ueadmiral:

Thank you for your support, friend.

I almost always pride myself on acting mature and unbiased, but VaeVictus, Sky, and Tecno_Geek have REALLY been giving me hard time lately, ever since Devil May Cry 4 was announced for the Xbox 360. I'm thankful for that because the Xbox 360 version will include Rumble features, just like the three previous DMC games.

But, I really did think that VaeVictus and Sky needed to be, "Taught a thing or two about a thing or two." This was the perfect time to do it, because they had left themselves so immeasurably wide open.

And it really was my pleasure to slap them down so severely with the equivalent of a wide variety of words coming from professional reviewers, which resulted in the equivalent of slapping down their over arrogant attitudes with solid-based metallic objects, leaving them for dead, and then tossing them into an expressway, as if I was doing it to a gangster in Crackdown.

I really did waste a LOT of my life writing what jocks2 called "essays" trying to explain the reasons why the Xbox 360 version of Oblivion would be superior and rated higher.

VaeVictus refused to acknowledge all of those citations and references I provided, and finally I was forced to say, "Forget it; let's just wait for the reviews where the Xbox 360 version will be rated higher."

And that is what happened.

The 1up editor actually pointed out that he has spent OVER 200 (yes, TWO-HUNDRED) hours playing Oblivion, and he pointed out that even without the Shivering Isles expansion with the graphic update, there are still plenty of areas where the Xbox 360 version is better than the PS3 version in terms of graphics--such as the dungeon area textures. When games are released on two systems there are pluses and minuses in both versions; that goes without saying.

But the KEY FACTOR is that the Xbox 360 version has all of those extra gaming elements from the downloadable content and expansion packs. Those features are not included in the Playstation 3 version, and they may never be. Those downloads, features, and expansions make the Xbox 360 version of the game so much more customized and larger--it is far superior.

Those are the reasons why the Xbox 360 version is rated higher, and the professional reviewers make it clear that the Playstation 3 version should be the last choice on a person’s list if they also have access to the Xbox 360 or a PC.

Also, it kind of surprises me that I haven't read one review of the game that mentions how the Playstation 3 version of Oblivion does NOT feature Rumble technology. That is a COOL part of the Xbox 360 game! I couldn’t imagine playing that game without the Rumble features.

ACtually UTP, this is the 1st time I've open this forum, today, right now @ 9:23am. You certainly resort to a lot of copy and paste paragraph redundancy. Then Sky retorts to your claims and you have to spin it to avoid soiling your diaper. It's what you are good at. Glad to see I've gotten under your skin. Your pathetic attempts at insulting me are laughable at best.

"The Xbox 360 version has been reviewed by 132 (Yes, ONE-HUNDRED THIRTY-TWO) websites, magazines, and newspapers.

Maybe VaeVictus needs to get his head out of the "Sky" or vice-versa."

These 127 other sites are valid b/c UTP said so. Hahahahaha. Go listen to your Kenny Loggins greatest hits album you loser. Riding through the dangerzone, lol.

Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/27

There may be 3-7 actual legit websites, tops.

I'm not going to take anything reviewed by any website with the words Microsoft, Xbox, 360, ps3,psp,ps2, Nintendo, gamecube or Wii seriously.

Let me revise that so it is not taken out of context. If the site has any affiliation with a console company, it is not to be taken serious. For example, I visit PSU.come often. I like the site. I would never, however, use their reviews of a game as a basis for arguments. Hope that clears it up.
Written by CianMCL on 2007/03/27

thats good to hear vae use multiplatform sites one which review multiple consoles.
Written by Kenny K on 2007/03/27

why does fruity the loopy post in here? why does he post in general? he's no better then tecno IMHO.

back to the topic:

has it been confirmed that the new shaders is included with the expansion? is it used ONLY on the expansion or added to the entire game? i cant wait to DL this tonight, ive been playing a lot of oblivion lately. still cant get enough of it.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/27

VaeVictus:

The main problem with factoring DOZENS of those reviews in the 132 Xbox 360 reviews into the comparisons of the 5 Playstation 3 reviews is because of the simple way that the games are rated mathematically by many of the websites.

Consider that only a few of the reviews gave the game a perfect score of 10 out of 10 for the Xbox 360, and none of them did for the Playstation 3.

But, that isn't the BIG factor. The HUGE factor in statistical math like that is the way that the Review charts are different.

For example, look how Gamespot gave the Xbox 360 version a 9.6, but the PS3 version a 9.5. And look how many other websites use rating scales that include decimal points. This is only a difference of one percent.

The fact that the Gamerankings websites allows both decimal-based reviews and non-decimal-based reviews to be factored in together puts the Xbox 360 at a disadvantage with all of those extra reviews that have occurred over time, because equivalent percentages of non-decimal ratings where numbers of 8, 9, and 10 are used in segments that represent percentages such as 80%, 90%, 100% have HUGE 10% gaps in between! While the five websites that have reviewed the PS3 version all use decimal-based reviews, so they can have scores like 92%, 95%, and 96% with no gaps in between.

ALL of the Playstation 3's five reviews were reviewed by websites using decimal places. This means that even if they don't feel the game is worthy of a 10, it will still get something higher than a 9.

However, the Xbox 360 version has now been reviewed by 132 review places. And many of those review organizations do NOT use decimal point systems. Many of them simply rate on a scale of 1-10, with no decimal places.

This means that if they thought the game was AWESOME, but still just not quite Perfectly worthy of a 10, then it would only get a 9, or 90% instead of say, a 96% that would come from a rating of 9.6, like so many decimal-based review organizations gave the Xbox 360 version.

When enough of those 9's, representing 90%, in the 9-out-of-10 comparisons are factored into the comparisons, then it hurts the average and brings it down...

Do you NOW see what I was talking about, or are you as Statistically Mathematically ignorant as Sky, or an unbeliever like Tecno_Geek???

The Bottom line is what the professional 1up editor with over 200 hours of experience playing the game said:

"But the PS3 version sitting on store shelves right now is inferior to its brethren on other platforms. So I can really only recommend it if you don't own a 360 or a PC capable of running the game well.

In other words, it's one of the best games ever -- but don't buy it unless you have no other choice."
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/27

I've played the 360 version, I know it's good. What I pointed out and noted, was that it has been mentioned by IGN and in the latest issue of Game Informer that there are parts where the PS3 version is better. I've never tried to belittle the 360 version as you have done the PS3 version. Don't try to go into your theory of decimal places to explain why the PS3's version got a slightly higher score. FAct is the game is good on any platform. The reason I ever said anything about the comparison is b/c you see fit to always bash the PS3.

You were actually having a decent conversation until you decided to attempt to insult me once again. Of course it fails, as usual.

You should really look up the word unbiased. Then you should take into account what it means and incorporate it into your daily postings. There'd be far less conflict here. Keep in mind, I am not asking you to agree with anything anyone says.

Just try to make your statements more pertinent to the topic at hand, and realize that there are great things about ALL systems to discuss.

Until you do so, I will be on your like white on rice.

You certainly do go a long way to try to sell the 360. I think DM should charge you advertising for freely using his site to espouse the greatness that is MS's products.

VaeVictus:

The Xbox 360 has received the HIGHER scores for Oblivion: Elder Scrolls 4!!!

The Bottom line is what the professional 1up editor with over 200 hours of experience playing the game said:

The common places from reliable sources like IGN, Gamespot, and 1up all rated the Xbox 360 version higher.

Your idiot friend, Sky, was simply trying to make an excuse for the PS3 version by saying that the "average" rating on one website called gamerankings for the two games showed that the Xbox 360 rating was slightly lower...but I was trying to point out that the Xbox 360 version had been reviewed 132 times, by different review places using different review methods, while the Playstation 3 had only been reviewed 5 times, all by places that use decimal points, which is much more leniant when it comes to Averages.

The Xbox 360 version rated higher by those reliable sources like IGN, Gamespot, and 1up.

You can't let well enough alone can you? Sky used gamerrankings. You used 132 different websites? What does it really matter? IGN and GI both said that there are some graphical and technical differences (minor,in favor of the PS3) but that it doesn't subtract from the game. They also said that if you didn't previously own it on another platform, then it is certainly worth a buy. If you were Unbiased, you'd simply just "AGREE."

true vae, but they had more time to do all this, and ps3 dev kits, not some pc port
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/27

Who cares? It's a good buy for whatever system. That's my point to UTP. He has to go above and beyond to prove to himself and everyone else why MS is so great. He can't let a game just stand on it's own merits. He points out decimals from 132 websites, I say good game on any platform and you are questioning me?
Written by captkey3s on 2007/03/27

LMAO this is becoming so funny it hurts, anyway anyone play this expansion or the game on PS3 yet and can give some insight into how it plays? will the expansion make me want to play cause i haven't played the the game in a while. Those the PS3 version really have faster load times? If some knows please post or how about someone give a user review.

@(u)TP wrote:"professional reviewer from 1up"

have you been to 1up! i can't call them reviewers or professionals, IGN gave the 360 version a higher score by .1

Since you hate....not hate....dislike Sony so much and own a PS3 you should sell it at reduced a price to some on this site that would like one, many would gladly take it off your hands and free you from the tyranny of Sony, friend.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/27

Response to captkey3s:

Friend, this one is a little bit different. I am NOT displaying any type of bias against any business organization such as Sony and the Playstation 3. I am displaying a HUGE level of warranted bias against VaeVictus, because deep down, he wanted me to show it towards him...and now he is getting it!

The editor for 1up is DEFINITELY someone who can be considered a professional for two fundamental reasons:

(1) He is getting paid a salary, lol

(2) Seriously, he said he has over 200 hours playing the game on the Xbox 360 and the PC, so he knows what the pluses and minuses of each version are.

The 1up editor pointed out some of the graphical advantages the Xbox 360 has over the PS3, and vice-versa...it appears the PS3 had the improvements to the draw-distance and things like that, while the dungeon areas and lighting are better on the Xbox 360, likely due to the superior Xbox 360 GPU. When you add the Shivering Isles expansion, the outdoor environment draw-distances become virtually identical, and the Xbox 360 once again gains the upper hand in visuals, especially when you consider that even though the PS3 version is being released so much later it has a TON of glitches where you can walk through walls and things like that.

But, like we all seem to agree on, the differences are very minor, so much so that the differences in the reviews are often by one decimial point, or a single percentage point.

The 1up editor confirms what VaeVictus says: Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is a great game on ANY platform!

But, the key is that if you had all three platforms, the Playstation 3 version is the LEAST DESIREABLE version, because it lacks all of the downloads, extra features, and expansions.

I am not saying that, and reminding people of it just to be biased against Sony or the PS3. I am doing it to be 100%, ABSO-FRIKKIN-LUTELY biased against VaeVictus, because he made me waste so much of my life pointing out all of these things about the game, and he was so arrogant that he needed to resort to name-calling and other immature behavior.

Here is a deal VaeVictus: I would be happy to come to a draw with you and start over in a mature way. I will start off by being the good guy and pointing out a nice fact: The Playstation 3 FINALLY got its first Gamespot Editor's Choice Award, thanks to Oblivion. Tapping into one-year old Xbox 360 classics like that is a great idea for the Playstation 3, even if they come out in a form without downloads.

But, I want VaeVictus to admit that if he had an Xbox 360, a well-powered PC, and a PS3, then he believes those professional reviewers are correct that the Playstation 3 version is the least desireable version, because it offers the shortest amount of playing time in the smallest world that isn't nearly as customized because of a lack of downloads and other features.

If VaeVictus admits what the 1up editor with over 200 hours confirms, then I will shake VaeVictus hand and call a truce.

Here is a reminder of the two key points from the PS3 version reviews, so remember this VaeVictus:

From IGN:

"So what's different? For one, the majority of downloadable content available on PC and Xbox 360 didn't make the deadline. That means that Mehrunes' Razor, the Vile Lair, the Wizard's Tower and other post-release goodies are nowhere to be found (and that includes this month's "Shivering Isles" expansion). There isn't a clear answer as to whether or not users will ever be able to download these add-ons either -- so there's a definite possibility that what you see is what you get."

From 1up:

"But the PS3 version sitting on store shelves right now is inferior to its brethren on other platforms. So I can really only recommend it if you don't own a 360 or a PC capable of running the game well.

In other words, it's one of the best games ever -- but don't buy it unless you have no other choice."

I know you like to stay well informed in terms of "research" so I thought I would let you know that at this point in time there are now twice as many places that have reviewed the Playstation 3 version of the game...and guess what...the Xbox 360 version of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, now has a higher overall ranking on Gamerankings.com

See...I told ya once those non-decimal places started coming in then the averages for the PS3 would drop BIGTIME, and that is exactly what happened!!!

VaeVictus never showed up for the truce I offered, so at this point in time I simply declare total victory in this area...I called out VaeVictus, and he lost in EVERY way.

I point this out because of his arrogance and childish behavior! So that is why his face is getting rubbed in the dirt.

Once again, I will remind these two professional reviews, particularly the one from the 1up editor with over 200 hours of experience playing:
