It seems as there is a new viral marketing site from Microsoft/Epic over at theabovedomain.com. It shows an Artwork with the date 12-24-06 embedded. Could this be a new (And supposedly free according to GameSpot) multiplayer map for Gears?

According to Sandvine Inc, an independant analyst corporation, Xbox Live has enjoyed an 80% increase in the number of Xbox Live users across a sampling of North American-based broadband service providers' networks during the first week following the release of Gears of War. London and Waterloo, Canada; December 5, 2006 -Sandvine Incorporated, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sandvine Corporation (TSX:SVC, AIM:SAND), identified a surge in Xbox Live and iTunes traffic on North American broadband networks following the release of new Xbox games and iTunes 7.

Over at PC Gamer, there is a new Unreal Tournament 2K7 Q&A posted. Epic producer Jeff Morris answers questions about the game, focusing mainly on the new and updated vehicles found in UT2K7. Check it out, it certainly sounds like we are in for a treat.

In case you have not heard, GoW lead character Marcus Fenix will be starring as the hero of the entire Gears Of War trilogy. As we also told you, the game has knocked Halo 2 off its perch as the number one XBox Live game. Do not expect any official news anytime soon, though.

Many gamers have been complaining that Gears Of War has many multiplayer connection issues. While the game is not even out in the UK yet, Epic promised that they are working on a patch to address these issues. No specific date on the patch yet, but we expect it soon.

"A patch is in the works to address the connection issues as well as several other bugs that have been reported."

Alain Tascan, the general manager for EA Montreal, has stated that he thinks the popular XBox360 title Gears Of War is overrated. Speaking on a panel at the Montreal Games Summit Tascan Said "What is Gears of War? I mean Gears of War brings nothing in terms of innovation to the shooter... Like, zero. Only two very brave UK-based journalists said, 'You know what, Gears of War is a great game but it's like what Quake was a few years ago." Whether or not he speaks the truth remains to be seen, we think the game is fantastic. Is it revolutionary though? The jury is still out.

According to Epic's VP Mark Rein, there may be additional functionality added to the multiplayer section of GoW in the future. Even though MS forbade Epic from implementing a Halo-2-esque ranked team play mode to curtail cheating, Rein says that Epic may still find a way around the limitation in the future.

The infamous Cliffy B. from Epic Games hinted at a possible sequel to Gears of War when speaking to CVG. Of course, this is more or less common sense unless the game sells horrendously bad, but according to Cliffy B., "I wouldn't rule anything out." Company president Mike Capps does say though that there are no plans currently to make a sequel and that the crew needs a period of rest and relaxation after finishing the first GOW.
