Sony Is 'Out Of Touch' Says Microsoft >
2009/01/21 9:11:26: Posted by DM
Aaron Greenberg, the Xbox boss at Microsoft, has responded to the recent claims by Kaz Hirai that Sony is the official console industry leader. Greenberg stated that Sony is 'out of touch' with the industry and consumer, and is 'comfortable with its market position." It is hard to agree with Sony if you look at the sales numbers, but we are trying to keep a neutral outlook. Hopefully the PS3 sales will pickup this year.

Their PR is a disaster. Attention Sony, I'm for hire. I'll not be a retard, and I'll work cheaply in comparison to the uckup-fay's you have working for you now.

Here's that back and forth banter i was talking about.

While your at it VaeVictus could you please educate the other PS3 owners on N4G. Show them how to prefer the PS3, but be more level headed about it.

I like a good videogame debate, but damn. Anyways by my calculations at the rate that the PS3 is outselling the 360 on a yearly basis "666,666" it would take another 12 years to catch up to the 360. So I guess Sony is now on a 14 year plan with the PS3.

I came up with that humber by doing this.

PS3: 18 million in 2 years

360: 25 million in 3 years

These were the claimed shipped numbers for both companies at the end of November 2008.

PS3: 9 million a year

360: 8.33 million a year

While it's quite possible that Kaz is being cocky because he knows something we don't (like they're going to be able to drop the price substantially soon because of better than expected component cost drops), this is exactly why he should just stfu. Save your cockiness for when you are actually kicking ass. Otherwise you just remind people of the Iraqi misinformation minister. Remember that guy? lol

I for one would welcome a price cut for the PS3. If the 80GB PS3 came down to $299.00 I would buy another one.

I am not sure how much a $299.00 Ps3 competes with a $199.00 Xbox 360. But we shall see. However I have my doubts about a price cut any time soon. With the rumored 1.1 Billion dollar loss instead of the 2 Billion dollar fiscal year profit Sony forcasted. Heads are rolling. Jobs are being lost. Restructuring. It just doesnt make sense to continue to bleed money to try and gain marketshare. Especially in our current economy and how the the foriegn currency changes really hurts Japanese Exports right now...

I'm curious, where did you get the 666k difference Pimp?
Written by PimpDaddy on 2009/01/21

Xenos: Calculator. If the PS3 sold/shipped 18 million in 2 years that is 9 million a year right? If the 360 sold/shipped 25 million in 3 years that is 8.33 million right?

So that is a difference of 2/3 of a million or 666,666 a year that the PS3 is outselling the 360. At that rate you take 666,666 and multiply that by 12 years you are basically at 8 million. Which is the gap in sales right now.

Since the PS3 is already 2 years old and Sony has stated thier 10-year plan repeatedly, I decided to run the numbers myself on the ole trusty Windows calculator.

Ok that sounds good but something still confuses me. Originally there was an estimated gap of around 7 million when the ps3 first launched. That gap later closed to around 5 million, however that gap has now widened again to roughly 8 million by the end of 2008. So with this said, I'm not sure how the 360 could widen it's lead when the ps3 is selling more annually. I know in 2007 the ps3 sold more units by I think 1.2 million units, however in 2008 I believe the 360 sold more.

Not sure if I'm explaining it right since I can't type worth a shit anymore.

I love the mud sliggin

off topic who has far cry 2?

I'm loving the game right now.

I think Microsoft had inflated thier sold numbers by the end of 2006 to say 10.6 million "shipped".

I dont know what the exact lead was after 1 year. But by my calculations the reason why that gap has widened was Decembers sales were phenomenal for the 360 in comparision to the PS3. The 360 doubled up the PS3 in the US alone. Then you take into account that the 360 is outperfroming the PS3 outside of the US too.

I could easily see Microsoft increas that lead by 1-2 million in December alone. Not to mention that November was also a great month for the 360. In fact ever since Spetember the 360 has been beating the PS3 on a monthly basis worldwide. We all know that last 2 months of the year are the biggest and most important months for retail sales.

Sky: I love the mud slinging too. Kaz Hirai owned himself yesterday. Made Sony look like a bunch of idiots. Then Aaron Greenberg owned Kaz Hirai even worse. Damn twice now this year Sony has made stupid PR statements.

Talking about the PS3's value, and how you are "required" to buy all these accessories just so the 360 can match up to the PS3. By saying the Wii wasnt even capable.

I will tell you this. The Wii has shown its "capability" to outperform the 360 and PS3 combined this generation.

Then saying they made the PS3 harder to program for on purpose, so developers would have more to do. GTFO Kaz. I guess he is going into mandatory retirement next...

VaeVictus: Please apply at Sony soon. Like Today. Like Now. Like why are you still reading this. Like get on it. Get er done...

All of the manufacturers count the number of "shipped" consoles. Once that console has shipped to the stores, MS, Sony, Ninty, etc all get their money. It's then up to the retailer to sell these consoles to recoup the cost. So I don't think it's wrong for them to count "shipped" in their total counts since those systems will eventually be sold.

There are too many factors to consider where nothing can really be summed up into a general number, but what we do know is that since the price drop the 360 has been leading in sales in both America and the PAL countries. Japan is a different story where the ps3 has outsold the 360 by roughly 600k units for the year.

Some of the factors that I'm talking about are the fact that originally MS was HORRIBLE with marketing in Europe. They sucked at it and lacked all understanding to how to sell to the PAL countries. That's now changed. Another factor was the this Sept. price drop was LONG overdue. Many expected the price to drop around the launch of GTA4, this didn't happen and the 360's sales were stagnant for most of 2008.

2009 will be interesting, that's for sure. I've said it before and I'll say it again though, with the way things are going for Sony, they shouldn't be mouthing off about anyone. Doesn't do them any good
Written by PimpDaddy on 2009/01/21

Well there are countries in Asia, South America, Canada, Australia, Middle East, etc... That dont make the headlines as far as tracking. But thier numbers are also pulled into the "shipped" figures Microsoft gave us.

The price drop made a big difference. But damn it took 3 years for Microsoft to take $100.00 of the core/arcade SKU. $100.00 off the Premium/Pro SKU. And $80.00 off of the Elite SKU. That coupled with the RROD and not having the same brand recognition that Sony oR Nintendo have in the videogame market. Virtually no chance in Japan. Yet here we are 2 years after the launch of the PS3 and the 360 is still alive and kicking. Increasing it's lead as we speak. Who would have thought...

no one.....the wii and the 360 as someone aptly put it were supposed to disappear
